Replacement Bonnet Catch
« on: October 16, 2011, 10:43:12 pm »
Hi guys

Sorry for the boring topic but having read up on the whole "my bonnet won't shut / open" problem, which my car has had since I've owned it, I was wondering if the part has since been changed by VW to prevent this issue happening? Obviously I can put up with having to prise the mechanism open and WD40ing it up every time but if the new part is better I might just get that and save myself the hassle   :innocent:

A new bonnet catch is only about £21.78 from the dealers. My friend had a new one last week,

I believe it is a revised part as the bonnet catch jamming is a common issue even according to VW.

Part number 1K1 823 509E

It's such common issue on the Mk5 that my VW dealer holds the part in stock.

I had the problem when not being able to close my bonnet at the start of an expensive private track day in Germany. With Hurdy's help, after checking fluids we managed to close the bonnet and decided the bonnet would not be opened again until I got home to my VW dealer!

Apart from a new bonnet catch it gave me the perfect excuse to fit AeroCatches and so 'RED' now wears both belt and braces and I feel much more secure, especially as my bonnet is carbonfibre.

I have a bonnet catch sitting in my garage, works fine. I only took it off because I put a chrome one on for showing.  Yours for a very small price if needed.
