Is this a sump off job?
if so do you need a new sump gasket ? or is it a wet gasket?

Sump off to get to the pick up, its a easy job when on a car lift but could be a pain of it was done off a jacl and axle stands.  There is not sump gasket, they use a special sealant SD176404A2, you just need to make sure both faces are clean

Hmm - wondering if this is the case for my mk2 Leon. The warning flashed up for a few seconds and disappeared but the car was fine.

Haven't driven it since it appeared last Thursday as didn't want to risk it!

It would certainly be worth checking Kaz

Had a Leon TFSi recently with a complete engine failure due to this problem, owner ignored the light and our warnings to stop driving the car but on his way to get his windows tinted things went bang. Bottom end failure, no compression in any cylinder.

I had to explain to someone I knew why it was important to stop driving ASAP if the Oil pressure light came on.

Often its probably just a faulty pressure switch, but you cant afford to take that risk...or some of us can!

I had this problem earlier this year with my car. Parked it up straight away and trailered it to my local specialist who tried changing the sensor which did nothing. He then dropped the sump and found the pickup pipe was badly blocked, did a full engine flush and scrubbed all the crap out of the sump, changed the oil and filters and it's been fine ever since

For reference, my car is an 06 GTI with about 48,000 miles on

Probably another good reason to avoid Long Life servicing.

/\ /\ /\ /\   long life oil and short runs, This is going to happen.

Thanks for the heads up, I've never been a fan of long life servicing, mine are all done once a year, I don't think the tt covers 2k a year. I might get them both checked at the next service (jabbasport not a main deler )

Hi all

Is this issue something worth checking out on my 56 plate Edition 30??
Got me paranoid now!!
55000 miles with full VW service history.

Remap in the future!!!

Also on long life service plan, would you all recommend time and distance on a car like this? Driven everyday at least 10 miles, a lot more use at weekends.

Cheers

I only have come across it twice now, BUT imo for what it costs and takes to fit an new one it will be worth doing so you know its spot on.   If you do swap it out can you post a picture up of the condition of the pick up pipe?

I always have any car on time and distance rather than long life, I think I had 2 services last year as I was using the car alot. A minimum of a yearly service I think is best for any car

I get mine serviced mine every 10k. I had the sump etc off last night and checked the pick up. Little bit in there but no where near as bad as the one in the link above.

However, mine had silicone in it?! Gave it a good clean and flushed it out, did some flushing oil round the engine too and popped some new oil in as well as a new oil filter.

Hoping my sensor was just having a moment that night as its not come back since *fingers crossed*.

Mine flashed up for about 5 seconds when I was about a minute away from home, but then it disappeared. The car carried on driving though and I got home, parked it up and left it. Hopefully last night has helped. If it flashes up again I may get the switch checked out.

I like to think mine wouldn't be too bad after 120k as its always consumed a bit of oil, so it's always being replaced.
