Twintake/ ITG on Ed30 Revo stage 2.
« on: October 18, 2011, 12:53:52 pm »
Has anyone had both Twintake and ITG intake on their ed30 (not at same time obviously ) and is there much difference between the 2 in terms of performance?

I've just bought a new Twintake but Revo are telling me the ITG is the way to go. Apparently any gains will be minimal with the Twintake, from reading reviews I'd expect the ITG to maybe make a few extra horses over the Twintake but nothing drastic.

Now I don't know whether to look for a new intake or just try the Forge, not sure if it's anything to do with the fact that they sell the ITG on their website but not the Twintake (for Ed30).

The ITG is reportedly a better performer but not by a massive amount. I think its more as you hinted, revo are in competition with Forge, and there maps were also developed with the ITG.  :happy2:

Something else you also may want to consider is the Forge uses the front scoop where the standard air box connects to the front panel of the car , if you go with the ITG then this scoop is open to the engine and it gets covered in crap and imho makes your car look tatty.

I like to keep mine clean so i wouold opt for the Forge personally

If you install a heat shield like the one fitted around the Evoms, the dirt can't reach the engine.   :happy2:

....Revo are 'in bed with' ITG - They don't live far away from each other and ITG tested on Revo cars AFAIK. Either way, Revo are biassed on this subject. Having said that, the ITG has been shown to deliver a few more bhp but not much difference in practical day-to-day driving reality. The ITG is noisier. Cost difference between the two is fairly negligable.

Personally I prefer the more sophisticated sound of the Twintake and also its appearance. The foam blocks on top of the battery were an afterthought (late necessity in the development) and they look it! Very amateur Heath Robinson appearance in my opinion.

Choice between the two is subjective at the end of the day.

Baldy boy is right Mandy, ive had both and AMD will tell you ITG is better as well.....if you want my opinion (even though you dont listen Baldy)  there is NO noticeable difference in REAL performance, if someone showed me a graph on a rolling road that was 2-5hp gain on ITG from forge i would laugh at them and put it into real prospective, the gain would be if anything so mariginal you wouldnt notice. In theory the twintake shouldnt work that well, but it does....it looks nice and sounds great too.

Hope this helps?

shhhh Baldy PC listen you only have a 1 and 1/2 intake after you squashed the poor thing!!!! ..... no spamming you bad boy! They both sound EXACTLY the same to me on my vehicle anyhow....plain and simple....a DSG will, as Baldy will agree not sound as loud ....my manual cruncher is soooooo noisy with either intake but the noise does change in terms of loudness when you add more mods to the car thats for sure i.e twintercooler and forge diverter (closed loop) if you are running REV D diverter it will be quieter also. plus i run Boost 9 so i just put up with it.

That's it - As flyboy says, the soundz an intake makes will always be strongly influenced by the other mods which an individual car has. Sound frequencies can transfer differently under different circumstances of resonance etc etc etc.

But generally, the ITG is reported to be louder/noisier whichever term you prefer.

Zboyd of SCN had both and prefered the twintKe. His itg made more power at the top, but there was more response in the midrange with the twintake

Well personally, I think the twintake is a con. I took mine apart to clean, and the side air filter was like brand new, and the main one connected to the scoop was caked. I do think it looks a lot better though!
I've just ordered an ITG after deciding to keep my car and get the engine rebuilt , so will report back on the differences :happy2:

....Just because one filter collects more debris than the other doesn't mean that there aren't performance gains as a result of having two filtered intakes.

For obvious reasons any/every intake route needs filtering to protect the engine. Before public release, Forge also tested the Twintake as a 'Singletake' by omitting the side route behind the headlight. They found significant performance gains with the Twintake over the Singletake even though that side intake does seem illogical.

The percentage splits of air volume intake between the two pipe routes may be different and may be a smaller percentage value from the side location, but the point is the sum of the parts.

Additionally, if you think about it, more debris will be caught in the full-ahead position where it has nowhere else to go than when it gets aerodynamically pushed around the side of the car. You don't get leaves and insects stuck towards the sides of a car do you.

It's as much about performance gains, if not more, as it is about filtration. Air + Fuel = ? <-- You already know the answer.

Final choice will also factor in eye-candy in the form of what appeals to you individually. I'm a fattist: I don't fancy fat women regardless of how nice a person they are, some of you do fancy them (fortunately for them!). Choice also factors in sound: What appeals to our individual brain via something we call ears.

In the case of Twintake vs ITG, I wouldn't like to say that one is 'better' than the other - They're both very good but I have a much stronger preference for the Forge Twintake.
