Bleed Nipple Over Tightened
« on: October 16, 2011, 09:46:32 am »
VW serviced my car yesterday, the work schedule this time included a brake fluid change.

They said the last dealership to change the brake fluid overtightened the bleed nipple, and therefore it might start to leak.

I was told to be wary of sponginess in the brakes.

Their recommended course of action was to replace the entire rear off side caliper (at an all inclusive cost of £330.36).

Is it possible to just replace the bleed nipple?

If not, is a refurbished brake caliper a safe alternative?

I was a bit worried about that too, but they said it would be fine.  They said, if anything, it might start to gradually become more "spongy".

Do you think I shouldn't drive it until it's fixed?

Cheers for the referral, I've sent DaveB a PM.

if the brake nipple has been loosened of again and tightend back up and isn't leaking then it will be ok..but if its leaking it will need changing as you can't by the nipple seperately

I take that by "it", you mean the caliper.

Fair enough.

So are refurbished calipers a good idea?

I don't know about the rears but the front nipples are available, I've just fitted 2 to the front calipers. Part numbers are 1KO 615 273A.
Hope that helps
