Hi, Im a new owner of an ED30 and new member
« on: October 19, 2011, 05:34:28 pm »
Hello,

I have just become a member and am from Essex. I have just become an owner of a ED30 in Candy White, 3dr, Manual, 22k (exactly what I wanted). I previously owned a Mk4 R32 and have been waiting ages to get the right ED30.

Car includes:
Satnav
Lux Pack
Multifunction Steering Wheel
Sunroof
Rear Tints
Armrest including 6cd Changer
and Optional Detroit Alloy Wheels

I am really pleased with the car so far but prefer the standard Pescara Alloy Wheels. I am in no rush but will be changes these. Didnt let it bother me because the car was right. My local VW dealer wants over £2000 for Pescaras without tires. That is just ridiculous!
I also enquired about my build number plaque whilst in there. The car doesnt have one at the moment. Im just hoping that it has never had 1 before as they said its £250 if I wanted it made! Again, thats a ridiculous price. They said that they will get back to me in the next couple of days, I have my fingers crossed.

I have also had a turbo back Milltek fitted because the standard exhaust was silent! I couldnt believe how quite it was, as I was used to my R32 being loud standard. The Milltek is a happy medium.

Welcome and sounds like a good one you have.

I got mine last week (saturday) Candy white 08 plate 5DR DSG (I was not fussed how many doors it had lol, but DID want DSG), i just wanted as many options on it as possible, i think it has everyhing except 6disc, bluetooth, folding mirrors and cruise con, I will retro fit BT and cruise, the other options I dont need!

I spoke to VW on Monday about my badge as prev owner said he never got one (had it from new). They told me it would be £100 if they find it was sent out prev, but i heard on this forum that the company that made them for VW will make one for you for £40, that was last year tho!?.

Let me know if they come back to you as she said they would call me by friday with Build date/Number and details on Badge etc. I did tell them on phone that them sorting this is the difference between me getting a spare key cut with them (£169.50) and bringing my car in for 40K service (£650 as Cambelt and Water pump, will also ask them to check coil pack recall has been done also), otherwise its going the specialist who will do all that around £250 cheaper!!

My plans are to get it stage 2 mapped within the next couple of weeks, most probaly by Revo because I live very close to AMD (Revo dealer). That is the only reason for my choice, and get a set of Pescaras for it!

My spec sounds similar to yours but on a 57 plate. Are those options easily retro fitted?? I was glad to find one with loads of extras, because I started to notice that the majority of ED30's for sale were quite basic (armrest being a must).
I will update about my badge. I keep on hassling them and should find out tomorrow! Hopefully lol. £40 is definatley better then £250. My car also needs a service and MOT, so I said that my custom depends on the badge.

Are there any other recalls that I should be aware of??

Cheers.

Similar situation, Tax due in 2 weeks, hopefully get the V5 back time so i can tax it before end of month, local plod very keen on cars round here as being in rural norfolk i think pulling someone without Tax is likely to be his weekly highlight lmao.

Retro fitting of Cruise control and Bluetooth is pretty simple i think, theres a guy on here somewhere that does it pretty good prices, left him a message awaiting to hear back as i want cruise fitted and if he can do a package deal i might get both as my car seems to want to cruise at 100mph rather the 80mph i set CC to lol (For any plod reading this 80mph on speedo equates to 72mph on GPS speedo!)  :jumpmove:

Once tax done, its paint shop time and then 2 new tyres on front as the Dunlop Sports are getting pretty worn (about 2.6mm left according to my tyre gauge). After that i will start saving for The big service and re-map etc, im going Jabbasport in Peterborough as they are only 45-50 miles away and they did work on my last 2 cars including re-mapping my 1.8T so i know they do good work, if your happy stick with what you know lol.

Regards recalls, i know coil packs was one of them and the other obvious one is DSG mechatronics, i was lucky that the previous owner was a long standing customer and managed to get them to replace the whole DSG Mech system under warranty and gave him 3 years warranty on new box (phew!), that was only done 2 weeks ago!. Have spoke to dealers and they know i own the car now and any problems its going back lol.

So far very smooth, although launch control is a gimmick i think as it wheelspins like mad for second or 2 before gripping, im sure i could get a quicker start doing myself.
When i spoke to Jabba they said stage 2 Engine remap, turbo back exhaust and eithe ITG ot twintake should liberate around 330-345 and tha with HPFP likely another 15hp, i thinki i will likely go stage 2 only unless i really want to spend £1000 on a Intercooler and HPFP just for another 15-20bhp, err not likely.

Regards noticing upgrades, i remember when i had my 1.8T done to stage 1 (Just remap) and drove in with 150hp and out with arbout 205, it was like a different car, i cant imagine going in with 227hp and coming out with 350 aarrgghhhhh wheelspin central

Found out that my build no. plaque is coming from VW mon-tues next week. I am so glad they can give me one as I was starting to worry about it. No.1275.
When I go into VW regarding my service and MOT in Nov I will enquire about any re-calls if they havent already been sorted. Thankyou for the info though. I will prob just go stage 2.....not sure about stage 2+ as of yet......think 330ish should be enough (for now anyway).

Thats also a relief!! Its a nice touch I think. All I have to do now is buy some Pescara alloy wheels for it and sell my Detroits.

I think they look Good on a Black GTI, but Pesky's all the way on an ED30, good luck on the hunt for a decent set, might be cheaper to get a scuffed set and pay for refurb than buy a mint set tho?

Sorry I havent replied I have been working away. I havent got her number as my dealer sorted it all out for me. I must admit, my dealer was so helpful, he said he had dealed with the plaques loads of times so maybe he learnt how to sweet talk jenny lol!!
