iPhone 4s battery life
« on: October 20, 2011, 08:28:14 am »
Has anyone been having problems with this? Apart from the shocking way in which it loses charge, I'll give you an example. I went to bed last night at 11 with it fully charged at 100%. when it came to getting up this morning at 6.30, no alarm! My battery was dead. Thankfully my girlfriend was up anyway and got me up. Now I'm sorry but it should last longer than that shouldn't it on standby? Now I know smartphones aren't renound for their battery life but I think that's a bit of a joke. I'm thinking of contacting Vodafone/apple to see whats going on and seeing if I can get a replacement 4s. Just wondered if anyone else has had issues? Thanks

I've heard of the battery life of devices on iSO5 being slightly worse than the same devices under iOS4.x, but yours sounds like an extreme example. I'd not be surprised if you easily get a replacement.

Incidentally have you tried resetting it?

Have you turned off some of the features? Like Siri?

I've had better charge than that, but still worse than the 3GS.

Go to the general settings -> restrictions -> turn off PING

this uses a fair bit of power and unless you use the feature in itunes then its not needed

Thanks for the replies guys. I've turned off ping and I've turned off push notifications so I only get emails manually. I thought I must have a faulty handset, as I was shocked to say the least. I think I'll pop into Vodafone this weekend.

I've started closing down apps in the background, especially overnight.
Not sure it saves more than a few % though.

You'd be amazed what screen brightness, wifi, 3G, push etc does. I was recently on a rig tow and we had no network or wifi and my iphone4 battery lasted about 5 days compared to just over a day normally.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

+1 for reducing screen brightness. I tend to have the slider just above the 't' in Brightness.

Forgive my ignorance but how do you know which apps are open in the background?

Double press the home button.

Press and hold an app icon and you'll get the close option in the corner of each app.

Ah! That maybe what's causing it then! I didn't know you could do that. I'll try that and see if it makes any differance. Thanks very much!  :happy2:

On my 3GS I feel the battery life has improved since updating to iOS 5.

Although need to give it a few more weeks of use to make a final conclusion.

Agree. IOS5 appears to have addressed some of the battery useage issues. Example. Prior to upgrading to IOS5, with all apps killed i would loose 7-10% charge overnight (11pm-7am) that has now reduced to 2-4%.

You would be amazed at the amount of people who do not know how to close apps after they have finished with them. Especially bad if you travel across the globe and your phone is on 3G in each country. I saved one of my customers hundreds of pounds for data roaming which he thanked me greatly for.
