In perfect weather conditions there's probably not much in it, how often do we get that in the uk

The only ED30 I've seen run sub 5 seconds was Neil's totally stripped out 1 with every mod under the sun and a LSD as well, and it ran a 4.92 at Inters this year.  Put all his internals back in his car and I reckon it would have been just over 5 sec's

Jonnys, hurdys, neilms, sunglassesron are a few I know of who have gone sub 5.  Also neils was at bruntigthorpe which has a road surface llike a pavement. Also bear in mind whilst Neil car is ststripped, it also has a full road cage wwhich will cancel oout alot of the weight loss

Did I mention its only a 1.4 :P

S3 is for winners though, although on a track id rather a fwd with lsd than haldex/quattro. But for the 1/4 mile and crap weather honing add is the future

i woud have gone for an S3 but needed 5 drs and could not afford a sportback.

when my car went into a very well respected tuner for a sachs and lsd i spoke to them about the s3 over the phone and the response was "yeah, but they are slower though aren't they" - this could of course refer to the 400bhp+ ED30 he was running and not a mere stg 2+.

Another well respected tuner has an R32 and he agreed that my ED30 was quicker, less transmission losses, weighs less. Anyhow, Gaz has owned both so he is the best qualified to comment. Gaz - will you be at Awesome anytime soon so we can carry on the debate?  :drinking:

not sure when the next visit to Awesome will be, but its not all about bhp and 1/4 mile times its everyday performance for me. The stg2+ Ed30 is a great car but would spin up all the time which might be what some people like, where the S3 just grips and goes and makes no fuss. IIRC the S3 weighs 75kg more which is like havin your mate in the car????

They do spin and it is annoying, you feel the real power when first set off, you will never get that in an ED30! Trust me i know!!

Gaz, was your S3 in AMD the other day??

Back on topic

If your still loving the Golf and there arent any other motors that take your fancy then get the ED30.

Prices have dropped a bit last few months, so try and get a nicely specced one, so that you have a few more toys to play with (make the upgrade seem more worthwhile) Interior is definitely a nicer place to be than std car and although it doesnt really get going until 4000rpm it isnt really a problem. Just makes it easier to drive daily and then means you can get the power down a little easier when you do want to push on. Im perfectly happy with mine as std so cant really imagine that you would get bored of a Stage 1 unless you are prone to the odd drag race.

Extra £5k doesnt seem bad for a younger, more powerful, better specced car, with less miles and better residuals. Get it bought!  :happy2:

thanks leonard, going to look at this one tomorow, same colour as mine and  5 door only thing it does not have is the rear parking assist, like that on mine , http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/300602871843?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649

Looks like it's now sold as it says "This listing was ended by the seller because the item is no longer available."
Without traction power is nothing!
