Calling 170 tdi boys
« on: October 24, 2011, 08:26:33 pm »
Off to see one on wednesday. How can I tell that its a 170? Does log book give kw rating? I thought about looking for a DPF but will be haard to see and the later 140s had it too. Any easy ways to see under the bonnet?

Cheers

I think it's 125kW and I *think* the 170 has a boost gauge in the dials
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

We had a 170 TDi Golf GT Sport and in our 2007 version there was no boost gauge, if that helps.
Plus at that time the 170's had the twin GTi style exhaust, whereas I think the 140's at that time didn't.
Specs may have changed through time I guess though.

That said a look inside the service book inside cover will show the little KW sticker, whatever 170PS translates to in KW.

Just look on the stickerin the boot as it will have the kw rating.  Make sure the chassis match's on the sticker and the screen too

+1 for the exposed tailpipes, and iirc the 170 has the GTi brake set up just without the painted calipers, 312mm front, 288mm rear.

If you test drive it you should also notice the power difference (if you have experienced the 140).

the 170s have a chrome twin tipped exhaust like the gti, and the 140 doesnt or you could just put the reg plate in one one of those phone aps and it tells u the bhp etc.

failing that call the dealer and ask them to check the number plate/ chasis number

Cheer Maxitrol you are correct on the KW ratings. The 170 did also come with smaller disks on back hence I cant use that as a fool proof way.
Keano you are a star. PMing you now
