Car Pro Iron X - Safe to Use on VW Charleston's ?
« on: October 25, 2011, 08:21:15 pm »
As the title really, I have only had the car for 8 weeks and I am worried about the Charleston's this winter.

So, I want to really go to town on them, perhaps using Iron X first to decontaminate them, followed by some kind of sealer (also please recommend an appropriate product) to protect during the winter.

But will the Iron X be gentle enough for the lacquer on these wheels?

Thanks in advance :notworthy:

Iron-X is fine as long as the wheels are lacquered. Wouldn't trust them on bare metal/chromed wheels.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

They are not bare wheels, but they are a delicate breed of two tone polished/shadow anodising type affair....

All my wheels, winter and summer are wearing this - even put a coat on the bbq in the summer :ashamed: but it does look good

Its very highly thought of on DW and I think Stealth has used it on his bodywork

Yep definitely used it as part of my winter protection and will be using it again soon. I find it difficult to apply hard sealants to wheels (esp pescaras) which I why I prefer products like Poorboys Wheel Sealant - very easy to use though durability isn't as great as others. Get aroun 3 months worth of protection from it.

so, I have a couple of products here.

Can someone post an order in which I should conduct this protection?

1.) Wash car & wheels
2.) use CarPro Iron X
3.) Rinse
4.) Apply Poor boys Wheel Sealer

Kick back and admire the shine?

I'd be inclined to do the wheels separately - wash, rinse, detar, iron-x, clay, polish, seal. Kinda like paint. Breaks up the task and means if you do it properly, you'll take the wheels off and do the backs as well.

Otherwise above sounds find. You could also consider extra steps like detar and claying. Some even polish their alloys before sealing.
