MK5 GTi twintercooler
« on: October 26, 2011, 02:51:08 pm »
I've just discovered after about 127 phone calls that you can't actually transfer my GTi twintercooler to the S3 that I'm buying even though the unit is exactly the same.  Funny that AMD told me that it could just be swapped over but I need the different hoses.  Spoke to Forge who could supply the hoses but asked why I wanted them.  I told them about the swap and they asked me if AMD were going to make their own mountings???
Can you believe that the intercooler units are identical except for 2 different brackets welded onto each unit for the 2 different cars
What a stupid generic design, probably just to make money.  I understand that all cars are different, but these units (being the price they are) should be designed with removable brackets so they can be used anywhere  :fighting:
Anybody done this before??  :sad1:

Get the welded brackets removed and re-welded in correct position, it wont cost much.

And yes they do this on purpose hoping you buy another rather than having a multi fitting bracket  :fighting:

Also unless you also have a S3 IC on your gti atm then the forge hoses more than likely won't fit correctly on the S3.

What a palava
The hoses required will cost around £190 delivered from Forge, then I also have to worry about where these brackets have to welded onto and have no idea who to get in touch with to do that  :scared:
I guess the only alternative is to sell the twintercooler and buy another for the S3  :sad1:
Does anybody know what the difference on an S3 is between stage 2 and stage 2+ ??
Does the Twintercooler make it stage 2+ or is that just an extra?

As far as i was aware the only difference between stage 2 and 2+ is the addition of an uprated HPFP, thought the twintercooler was just an additional extra to help with the inlet temps once you map the car to any stage of tune

Difference between stage 2 and 2+ is the uprated hpfp and supporting map.
The standard S3 IC should be ok in most instances on it's own with a stage 2+ map though anything else that lowers charge temperatures i.e. twintercooler is a bonus.
