Headlamp adaptors for France
« on: October 27, 2011, 04:49:13 pm »
I'm taking the GTI for a trip to France, so I bought a set of headlamp adaptors / deflectors from Halfords along with warning triangle, spare bulb kit and all the other things the Gendarmes might demand, but probably won't.
I have halogen lamps on a 56-plate GTI.  The instructions suggest that there might be a dimple in the clear glass, but there isn't so far as I can see.  This seems to mean I have to hold it up to the glass, stick it on below-and-left-of-centre and just hope.  It doesn't seem very scientific to me - am I missing something?

And no, I haven't got room in my boot for your Christmas beers.

Shadow blue DSG 5 door with leather, sunroof, 18" Monzas, MFSW.
Full list of mods:  Seat inserts and a VW bottle opener.  Each worth 20bhp.

Hi SRC

I just arrived back from France this morning, having driven there in my 'nearly new to me Edition 30' on Tuesday morning.  I too bought the Euro red-tape kit, with the dreaded deflectors and I didn't bother fitting them!  I know, I know, the penalties can be severe if Inspector Clouseau catches you but having had a set on my previous Audi for no more than a week i vowed never to put them on again unless under threat of a night in the French cells. Mine were applied in the summer months, became kind of baked on and when removing them, they left a legacy mark that never went away!  I wet sanded the headlights just before I sold the car last month and the Halfords shadow was still there, years later.  Up to you of course but my headlights didn't appear to blind anyone this morning at 0500 driving from Amiens to the EuroTunnel. Any French truckers think different??!!

Bon Vacances!!
