That's mental...have you been giving them meter readings or are they going off estimates all the time?

When I moved into this house a few years ago I couldn't believe my DD amount, rang up EDF with a meter reading and they adjusted it - found I was £450 in credit!
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.

I pay £40 a month for a 150 sq/m house.  Heating is oil but cooker and hob is electric and the previous owner had a fetish for those halogen lights all over the place.  The wife isn't shy with the tumble drier either.  Deffo something wrong there...

In that case you might find by taking readings and ringing them up with them they may be able to adjust it to something normal! Usually they'll send someone out to verify it.  :happy2:

They might have you down as using twice as much as what you actually use.

Absolutely.... I hate the energy company monopoly just as much as petrol price monopoly. Bring back state energy services.

Scottish power recently tried this stunt with me. Wrote & said our DD was going from £93 a month for dual, to £124 'to account for your usage'. As my account was £95 in credit at this time, I emailed them and told them that I would instruct my bank to block any rise in my DD amount. Until such time as my account was in debit, they could get stuffed.

Got an email next day to say my 'account had been reviewed and no rise was necessary'.

I wonder how many people dont challenge it. And how many accounts are in credit at any one time. How much of our money that they havent earned are they hanging on to? The Bar Stewards aren't getting mine without a fight. Tell 'em you told your bank to block any rise in your DD. They can't take it from your account without your agreement (direct debit guarentee)

Logs are cheap I get through £140 per year - coal is bloody expensive but then I buy that by the bag due to a lack of storage - 6 x bags = £40, burnt a lot last winter with it being so bloody cold for so long

Hopefully some friendly advice  :happy2:

Whenever you can, supply a meter reading or let the meter reader in to read it.
Pay by DD
Take your elec and gas from the same supplier
And
Apply for one of their online tariffs like British gas web saver

Don't forget that only a couple of the companies are actually British and the foreign ones such as edf are
Owned by their home states like France.

British gas are trying to compete with state owned companies with very little transparency in how they
Are funded and what profit they make.

The utility companies pay the highest corporation tax of all the FTSE companies and is as high as
80%.

British gas also make about £10 profit per customer per quarter

The reason the profits look big is because they have 17 million customers !!!!

Yes I do work for British gas if you had not guessed

I left EON in May for NPower. Lots of people said I was crazy to leave EON, but with NPower I got the rates fixed for 1yr. So when then said the bills were gonna rise I was well happy.
I pay £50 a month DD for both Gas and Electric and up to press I am £48 in credit.  :star:

This will even out over winter no doubt.
