Big brake kit/NQSBBBK
« on: October 30, 2011, 03:37:48 pm »
Hi guys,

As we all know there are so many different big brake kits on the Market from the R32/S3 set up and the porka NQSBBBK and right up to the forge 10 pots

I'm in the market for a new set but I'm stumped! My budget isn't massive...
Lots of searching found me stuck between the porsche kit and the R32 kit purly because of my budget

Pros from my point of veiw of the R32/S3 kit
Rears are vented
Fronts are bigger

Negatives?
Very very heavy?
Don't look amazing compared to the NQSBBBK

Porsche pro's
Look good
4 pot
Lighter

Negatives
Same size as standard?

So I'm stuck! Do I go bigger? Stay lighter (that's we're it counts) more pistons!

I'm after a honest opinion from pepole that may have one or the other or even better.....have had both?
I will do a few track days

What would be best? R32 front and rears or the NQSBBBK with S3 rears all using J hooked discs?
I'll like pure stopping power
Any help would be great  :happy2:

I have the nqsbbk and I am thrilled but I can't compare it to the R32 setup (because I didn't have this setup).
But I have a question: why would you like to have the S3/R32 rear brakes? Do you usually have heavy things in the back?
I would use J hooked rotors, Ds2500, steel brake lines and racing brake fluid for the back. I am basing this argument on the fact that (1) I have the nqsbbk and (2) from what I saw on competition cars. I do a few track days per year and there is no need for S3/R32 rears. The Scirocco at Scirocco Cup have ARRacing kits on the front (the big racing kit ~365 rotors I think and 6 pot calipers) and stock calipers and disks (I couldn't find the pad type) on the back. So clearly they don't need more stopping power on the rear (it is true that they have a few pounds less). To make matters even clearer, I saw the the Seat Cupra's from Seat Cup have 256mm disks (compared to the 286mm GTI stock discs) and stock calipers on the rear axle!!!
When choosing the rear brakes it's important to find the right balance. That balance is greatly influenced by the weight on the rear axle and the weight distribution on your car.
Good luck!

Correct I think there is a balance but surly having bigger rears that are vented reduce heat wich should improve braking? I'm no expert so may be Completly wrong  :popcornsoda:
