Rear lights not full circle
« on: December 14, 2011, 08:11:31 pm »
Noticed this evening that the furthest most outer bulbs aren't lit (brake light) when headlights are on making the full circle. Only the inners are. These have worked in the past I'm sure of it. Got no bulb errors.

Any ideas what it might be? Cheers.

Mine has never lit as you explain. There was a mod for this to make it look like the passat. It would look better than it does.

Thats odd!

I'd of said that one of the elements had gone in the brake light bulb but a bit of a coincidence for both sides to be gone

Mine was like this mate, turns out that the previous owner had just put in the wrong bulbs. Both sides aswell  :fighting:

Not sure its a blown bulb as its both sides. Plus brake lights both work. Just not the tails.

That would make sense, as its supposed to be a double element bulb on the brake side of the circle - so if a single element bulb is fitted only one metal contact point is made to the bulb which could sounds as though its just the brakes - if that makes any sense

Gonna have to do abit more investigating. Im sure they've been a full circle before and I've not changed any bulbs.

If your brake lights still work it has to be something to do with coding. As the brake and tail bulbs are single filament that is operated by changing the voltages on the can-bus.

My outters worked but were dimmer compared to the inner ones when headlights were on, brake lights functioned as normal. are yours working but dimmed like mine were or not at all?

as above the bulbs are single filament and the car does the rest ie low power to the bulb so its a sidelight and high power to the same bulb when you brake to make it a brake light.

you might have the wrong bulbs fitted

Well just had half hr checking things over and it was a coding error on my part. I tried the fog lights as DRL's over the weekend just to see if they worked. When they didn't I put everything back as it was but must have done it to the wrong byte. Anyway, found the original coding that I had written down before doing and tweaks found 2 bytes were 00 and should have been 14 so corrected that and we're all good again :happy2:

Thanks to those who replied though.
