What diverter valve? Type D?

Recently i have realised my cars fuel economy has gone down alot also not as powerful as before, cant hear the whoosh sound through the intake like before, vag com came up with the following:

000665 - Boost Pressure Regulation: Control Range Not Reached
               P0299 - 002 - Lower Limit Exceeded - Intermittent

Does this mean i need to change my diverter valve? should that affect fuel economy anyway if it was blown? Also which diverter should i go for as i have read somewhere the new D type can fail?

It's only attached with 3 screws - if you take it off you'll be able to see if it has split. :smiley:

Three screws it may be but access isn't the best, need at least axel stands and preferably small hands/ long handled tools. Took about 45 to an hour, just fiddly as can only do small amount of turn so takes a while - not difficult though :happy2:
VCDS cable HEX-USB+CAN. New but can do the basics including coding

It most likely would. 

I very recently changed mine but it turned out the old one was fine, well, the diaphragm wasn't split anyway.  As said above its not difficult to do just fiddly.  Its not worth the hassle of taking the old one out unless you've got a replacement ready to go.  And if you've got it ready to go you might as well fit it whether you need to or not.

The new 'D' type is the latest most reliable version and is actuated by a piston not a diaphragm which are prone to splitting. 

The part number revisions can seem confusing because before the 'D' revision the latest valve was a 'G' revision.  Reason for this is that the 'D' revision is a different part initially developed for a different engine but is compatible with ours and is now the only part available.

Fuel economy might be down to the lower temps that have come in this last week or so - especially in the mornings
