Mk5 burning oil!!!

I checked and topped my oil up last week and today my oil light came on so i checked my oil and there wasnt non in there, i have only done about 500mile since last week?

The car is a 54 plate golf mk5 1.6 fsi
Its only has 36k on the clock with full vw service history & was last serviced at 32k

Any ideas people?

possibly the sump plug isn't correctly tightened/needs a new washer?

Im not sure mate havnt really looked isnt it piston rings if its smoking?
Went to shop last night to get some oil nd the bloke there said vw do burn alot off oil there desighned to do it?

Just for smoke first, if your using oil should show up through your exhaust. Thats if your not got a leak elsewhere so check under the car!

Could be valve stem seals/turbo/piston rings.

Compression test will tell you if the rings have gone but not all the time!

Cheers mate theres no leaks cause i fitted coilovers on the ramps snd there was no signs off leaks

I also have noticed that the fan is on alot but the temp gauge is half way
I started it from cold yesterday and the fan came on but the water was cold in the top up bottle could their blockage somewere?

If your A/C is switched off and the fan is still running a lot, sounds like a thermostat or temp. sensor problem.

As for oil comsumption, I've had my GTI now for two months and the oil level hasn't moved from the top...almost 2000 miles done!

Yeah look for smokes dude, if your not leaking your burning it which should show up through your exhaust. Do a compression test also.

should not be using that amount of oil, my gti has covered 100000 miles and has not used any oil since last service at 93000 miles, get some one to drive behind you and have a look if you have black smoke coming from the exhaust

Oil burning would blue smoke, black is over fuelling smoke
