Coming from hyper-revving Honda's i've always ran fully-synthetic mobil 1,
used in the GTi now for the last 2 changes and it doesn't use a drop!  :happy2:

Use VW504 approved 5W-30 oil. As long as it's approved to the correct standard, then it doesn't matter which.

FWIW I go with Castrol Edge.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Unless its the mobil 5w-30 ESP its not (or certainly wasn't) approved by VW.

Quantum is rebadged oil from Castrol / Mobil or whoever had the best bid at the time.

All GTIs should be on longlife oil and on Time and Distance servicing.

We all seem to know that, it's a pity the dealers don't though!

I'm on a service plan, when I got the car back I found they had put cheap crap in, I questioned it, and they said that longlife oil is only put on on a long life service plan.
For top ups, castrol edge £35 for 4 litres at asda :happy2:

Does this depend on the individual franchise?  I was told by a tech that that the dealers buy a few barrels of bulk oil depending on whatever is cheapest at the time.  Presumably as long as it complys with the appropriate VAG standard the franchise is free to use whatever they like?

..............same here. My dealer is selling the Quantum in 5 litre bottles at the moment but still has some top up bottles of Castrol on the shelf.

Yes it does, although the brand will use quantum, shell, castrol only
They shouldn't use any other type of oil, depending on the size of stealer you may find they will use the quantum 25l barrels if there not a mega busy garage bu if it's pretty busy like us then we will have to buy 2000 litres of edge and stick it in the  bulk containers out the back  :scared:
