A few of my night sky shots
« on: November 10, 2011, 01:06:55 pm »
Here are a few of my recent night sky shots. Couple of my best of the moon and a first proper attempt at star trails. Hope you like.

Yes very good. Like the 2nd Moon shot. We had a moon off a while ago when it was at it's closest.

Good opportunity at the moment as Jupiter is visible in the same area. :happy2:

Love the shots.

Wish I could afford a decent spotting scope to use with my camera for this.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Good shots. :happy2: How long was the exposure on the star trail photo?

All those pock marks on the Moon makes you wonder when we are going to get hit by a big one  :surprised:

It's probably a stack of many images of ~30second exposure each.

Cheers for the comments. The star trails one doesn't look its best as its been scaled down for the forum. Look loads better full size. That one is made up of 200, 30 second exposures which are then stacked using a small program I've got.

The kit I use is a Canon 1000D with a Canon 70-300 for the moon shots. Star trail pic is with the kit lens.

Here's one I made last winter in my front garden. Apologies for the light pollution! I'm still learning with my DSLR. Took me ages to realise why the camera wouldn't take the photo, I forgot to switch from AF to MF. Oh well you live and learn. lol

I think the tree adds a certain something to the photo. You can just make out the Pleiades star cluster too on the middle right side of the photo , definitely one I'd recommend you have a look at if you have a pair of 10x50 binos, it's amazing how it pops out at you after being nearly invisible to the naked eye in light polluted skies!
