idle problem and maybe something else
« on: October 22, 2011, 02:36:26 pm »
hi all, 1st thing this morning i got up to take my car to VW for a service, started the car up and it didnt seem right, seemed to be running a bit lumpy(if you know what i mean lol), like it was only running on 3 cylinders or something. i left it for a minute, and the revs dropped really low and the rose to about 1500 revs and the dropped to nearly stall but not quite that low.

i called the Rac out as i wasnt sure to drive it or not, his 1st idea was a coil pack problem(i had all 4 replaced i august this year by vw), he ran a diagnostics check which showed no faults.

he said to drive towards the vw garage i was taking it to and if any waring lights showed, then stop. No warning lights showed all the way to vw, so i dropped car in for its service and told them about the problem. they ran a diagnostics check as part of the service, but that also showed no faults and they didnt have time to investigate further as it was closing time, but the technician noted there was a idle problem on the service sheet and said needs further investigating.

car seems hesitant in 1st and 2nd, but once your moving it seems fine and drives well.

would it be a coil pack problem???

many thanks

Thankyou, that could be what i am suffering from. i seen in some of the threads i searched things about the exhaust, mine seems to be making a slight rumbleing sound, so the pcv thing could be it

any idea how much they are for vw ones and are they easy to fit?? keeping in mind i am not very mechanical minded lol

thankyou very much, very useful link that  is.  :happy2:

i phoned VW today and oredered the part, the guy didnt have a clue what i was talking about , i came on the net to describe the useful info i had been given and we eventually got there.  The part costs £33 plus VAT, so i asked how much they wanted to supply and fit,  they want £135 as its 90 mins labour, now looking at the link in the post above, its defo not a 90 min job, so i am going to get the tools myself and give it a go :surprised: :surprised:

they defo are, i told him i have info that its only a 30 minute job, he said to phone back in the morning as the person he needs to speak to about it had gone home. Not gonna bother though, as you say it might give me confidence to have a go at other little jobs.

should i replace the breather pipes as well??

Wish I had seen this earlier as I could have advised you to go for the BSH PCV fix at £70.

If you can take it back I would recommend it.

IMO save yourself the extra £35

The newer N revision seems to be alot sturdier :happy2:

Just my two pence

Edit: Breather pipes were in perfect condition when i changed mine. They will be fine and the gaskets just get the PCV :happy2:

The main benefit is that you will never have to spend £35 on a PCV again.

The inlet manifold has an intake from the original PCV and that get blocked off so no worries about vacuum leaks.

And finally all the high pressure crankcase pressure oil goes into the head instead of being sucked into that intake manifold.

Some may disagree, and I am not sure, but the build up on the valves should be less.

I got mine from Dubtek. No affiliation.

ordered the parts from vw nearly 2 weeks ago, was told i would get a phone call to say they had arrived and are ready for collection, ordered on a tuesday and no phone call, so phoned them last saturday morning, parts were there, so i asked what happened to the phone call to let me know they had arrived, parts guy said someone called but had no reply, nobody phoned me and surely even if they had they could have left a voicemail. wasnt going to argue about it, so said i will come and get them, set off to get them, arrive at 12.45pm, only to be told parts closed at 12.30pm so cant get the parts.

i work all week and had no chance of collecting them til today, so off to vw i go this morning, get there and ask for my parts, off he goes and he comes back with the pcv part but hasnt got the gasket i ordered as well, sorry he said the gasket wasnt ordered. wasnt happy as i was told to make sure i change the gasket at the same time and i wanted to do the job today. we can have it in for you on tuesday he said, told him i cant collect til next saturday due to work, so i suggested they post it to me when it arrives, on the condition they agree to replace it if it gets damaged in the post, he didnt get the chance to reply before a woman from the service department came over and she recognised me from having my car serviced with them 2 weeks ago, she basically told the guy to forget about posting it and she will arrange for it to be delivered to my home address on tuesday.  she apologised for the lack of communication from them and hopes it hasnt caused me too much problem.

was good customer services from them in the end i suppose, but still a but annoyed my car isnt running as it should and will have to wait til next week to fit the new pcv part and hopefully solve the issue

was very happy with that
