Fixed price servicing
« on: November 14, 2011, 04:27:11 pm »
Sorry if this has been done already, but could'nt find anything using search facility.

Just been on the phone to Peter Cooper Hedge End regarding service and cambelt/water pump replacement. They inform me that the fixed price servicing, as on the VW website, is something that they do not take part in. In fact they suggested that no dealer on the south coast does !

So for a major service they are charging £285 compared to the web price of £249 and around £450 for the belt/pump replacement compared to £399.

Would prefer to have VW do it for the sake of any warranty issues, but this is just taking the p**s

Is there anywhere else I can go near by and keep the warranty intact ? Seat ? Skoda ?

Don't JKM in Portsmouth do this without affecting the warranty ?

you can go to any VAT registered garage and as long as they service to VW specs it will not affect your warranty. VW cannot monopolise servicing by tearing up your warranty if you go somewhere else. this is the LAW  :happy2:

Just spoke to Snows regarding this and prices. No problem, as already mentioned, but advised to wait until Dec 1st as they have a new cheaper pricing structure coming along !! which might come in handy for VW price matching

My local VW stealers offer fixed price servicing (called to ask them) as my own Ed30 is due for service pretty soon (Its just this weekend hit 40K although it had its last service at VW in May), hoping to wait until april/may before getting waterpump/cambelt done as winter is the holiday season  :jumpmove:

It wont help you tho as im in Kings Lynn Norfolk, best bet is to ring round several dealers and find the nicest service person and sweet talk them

My car will be going to VW for service at £249 to keep up the FVWH but its not having the £399 cam/pump service as my local garage who I have used for 15 years will do it for £310, rather £90 in my pocket  :happy2: that £90 will go a small way towards a TBE Milltek

That VW website is a joke. Firstly the amount of dealers that do not do the fixed price servicing as per the web page is unreal. Managed to find somewhere that does do some of it and has a slight increase for the rest ! Poole wanted nearly £900 for major service and cambelt/pump replacement which costs just £648 on fixed price figures.

Secondly, when you call the 0800 number, the staff just tell you the nearest dealer regardless of whether they are doing fixed price or not. They have no idea who is in or out. Also the "find a participating authorised repairer" doesn't work.

Managed to get it for £713.99 which also includes brake fruid change.

one thing to bear in mind is that the fixed price servicing thing will probably be the same across an entire dealer group

i.e. the powers that be that own your local dealers will have decided not to do it, so nowhere local will. that's just unfortunate but if you keep searching local dealers until you find one that isn't part of the same group then you might have a bit more luck

tbh i'd just go to a specialist.
