Key Fob eBay
« on: November 14, 2011, 10:58:38 am »
got a 04 GT TDi at the weekend  and the only key that came with it is a bit s****y the emblem has fallen off and looks like it has been run over.

I have seen these on eBay and they look genuine but do not know if they will work with an 04 GT TDI?

Also does anyone know where to get the little VW emblem from, all I can find is these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-MK4-4-MK5-5-MK6-6-GTI-Key-Fob-Badge-Emblem-/140630565247?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20be3c217f#ht_571wt_1413 and I don't own a GTi :)

any help is hugely appreciated  :happy2:

Hi mate, I bought the last one he auctioned last week (Got it for £26 shipped), checked it over on arrival and its all Genuine OEM parts except key blade which is 3rd party, im getting it cut later this week and coded by VW same day so will post any problems, hopefully it should all be OK.

VW charge £60 to code immobiliser and local locksmith is charging me £8 to cut the key.

No need to mess about with coding etc - just buy an empty case and transfer your parts over - including the key. Nice and easy to do. Normally cost about £10 for the fob and you get the new key fob badge too (which are only about £1.50 each on ebay anyway).

Did it on mine when i got the car as the key fob was rather worse for wear too. Just about to buy a new fob badge myself as managed to wear off the current one due to the other keys in pocket.

Yeah i bought a spare case too as the ONLY key i got with my car was tatty so swapped over all the internals ,i recommended my above post as he only has 1 key and a spare comes in handy  :happy2:

I would recommend both new case for replacement and new fob and coding, fob off ebay £26, key cutting £8, VW coding £60, total £94 or you can take your V5 to VW and wait 3 weeks for your spare key to be cut and then spend an hour with VW and pay £169.50,I know which im doing

Same guy does replacement cases for £10, swap out your old internals so £104 and you have 2 new looking fully coded keys (and more inportantly a SPARE!).

Ahh good point that- totally agree!

Got a feeling that Eddie-NL on here may be able to do coding, as was selling some fobs on the sale section, but dot quote me

Sounds good guys! I am bidding on an empty case (genuine) so I can swap the parts over, a badge for the new case and a new full key so I can have a spare and get that cut locally and coded at VW.

Thanks for all the tips I have saved a few bob and have a little project when they come through the post.

I think the seller has got one up on me?? Just won the auction for £26 for fully working Key Fob or so i thought but he has just emailed me this:

Hi,
Thanks for your purchase, before I post the item would you like a new transponder fitted for the key? As per description this is not included in the sale, however can supply for £12 fitted. This allows the vehicle to start as it disables the immobiliser once programmed. Let me know either way so I can post the item?

I feel like he has mislead me but then I should have maybe researched it more before buying ?  :fighting:
