Broadband - Plusnet/BT
« on: November 14, 2011, 05:43:02 pm »
Moving house soon and I'm moving out of an area covered by my current provider o2 who I've been really happy with. £20 a month with no contract.
The area that I'm moving to is only covered by BT and so the choice is limited to BT or Plusnet.
Has anyone got any feedback on the service from the two?

Best option at the moment looking to be Plusnet as it's slightly cheaper with only a 12 month contract over 18 with BT

If you can get Infinity then great, if not then avoid BT like the plague as I have had two years of sheer hell with them!!!  :fighting:

I'm looking to go to IDNet FTTC shortly. Perhaps see if you can go with them? They do not limit any traffic etc.

I was firstly looking at Infinity until I read about their throttling and traffic shaping!

I'm on the move from O2 (who have been good, i must say) because they have stopped the deal that i was on. This is the deal that I've gone for http://www.primussaver.co.uk/agent/autumn/phone-and-broadband2.html?utm_source=Affiliate_Window&utm_medium=Affiliate_Marketing&utm_campaign=Affiliate_Window&awc=3552_1321305852_f62a7994fc7cf46ab0fee282287363c5

I'm in the sticks and have limited availability, but thought this wasn't bad and suits my needs

You can have O2 anywhere where you can have a BT landline. Yeah you have to pay a small line rental fee but it's not the end of the world and O2 broadband is so good it really is worth it. Their customer support is second to none.

I've had excellent experience with Plusnet.  They're advertising themselves at the moment with their cheaper plans, but I'm paying more for an 'unthrottled' service.  We've got BT Infinity in one house, but there is a massive slowdown at peak times; the service is much more consistent with Plusnet.  I'm guessing that BT have a more overt Transparent Proxy server policy as well, as I get a lot more random page errors.

Plusnet offer static IP addresses for no extra as well.  And like someone told me once, 'if you don't know what a static IP address is, you don't need one".

Do Plusnet throttle or traffic shape on their 'Extra' service?

120GB with unlimited midnight to 8am seems quite good and the price is cheaper than IDNet too.

What problems did you have with them? Feel free to PM,would just be good to know!

Where to start!
Very poor customer service, mainly infuriating off shore call centres!
Failing equipment
Invoice issues
Delays in connection
Very poor broadband speed
Etc etc!  :fighting:
