RCD500 to RNS310 what's required??
« on: November 16, 2011, 06:56:52 pm »
I currently have the RCD500 stereo unit in my 08 golf gti.  I have been offered to swap the unit with an RNS310 out of a 60 plate vw Touran. I am wondering what would be required to do this swap?  Would it a straight plug and play swap in each vehicle? Is it a worthwhile swap?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

If it will fit, then it should be plug and play.

Ok sounds good. I've read about needing new CANbus and things, would this swap not require this? Would there be any requirement for connecting to vagcom?

I have an 05 plate, plugged my 310 in and have no CANbus issues and required 0 coding.

Thanks for the replies so far!  Sorry to sound really stupid but how would I go about fitting a gps antenna?  Would I be able to take this out of the touran and use it in my golf or would I have to buy a new antenna?

the gps aerial on the touran is probably part of the roof fin??

the easiest way is to buy a gps only aerial off ebay (the little square ones) and shoove it as high up in the dash as you can get it

Yup buy one of eBay and as said stick it in top part of dash, piece of piddle and jobs a good'un!

If your local to Blackpool I don't mind fitting?

Thanks for the offer Betty02 but think blackpool's a little too far for me. Did you also install the armrest cd changer/media input? If so is that difficult to do? If it makes any difference I don't have steering wheel controls.
