R32-style rear lights
« on: November 19, 2011, 11:39:13 am »
Hi all

I'm looking for a set of replacement R32 rear lights and the cheapest I have seen so far are the Hella ones at 195 GBP (incl delivery) over on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-MK5-5-R32-GTI-Rear-Black-Red-Tail-Lights-HELLA-/220758801389?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33663ffbed#ht_3421wt_1180

Is this a good price?  I see Awesome GTI have (what appears to be the same item at a more pricey £227.99 (http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk/product.php?xProd=7735)

Is 190 a good price for the eBay ones?  Appreciate any advice!

Thanks

Ash

Cheers dude!  I have already placed an order via FleaBay....  Maybe someone else can get the ones from this board.

What a great forum btw.   :drinking:

BUMP!

I ordered a set from a seller on eBay and asked VW to fit the lights for me during the Service.  The Service manager just called and said these lights would not fit as they "are designed for left hand drive vehicles" :(

I have contacted the eBay seller as there was no mention of LHD/RHD on the Item description page.   :surprised:

Are VW just being a bit dumb with the fitting??  Are there really separate LHD and RHD versions of these lights? :roll eye:

Here is a link to the item I purchased: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/220758801389?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

Thanks!!!

Ash

From what Ive read I think the only difference is the fog light and reverse lights are on opposite sides. I sure someone can clarify this later though.

Yeah on LHD units you just need to swap the wiring over to work like a UK RHD version  :happy2:

Thanks!!!  Is that simple to do??  Is it just a case of swapping connectors?  Do you need to open up the assembly or anything like that?

I think its possible to dismantle the inner rear light units and swap over the clear and red centre parts. Was trying to find where I read it but struggling at the mo.

Wow... I am useless with stuff like that.  The eBay ad described fitment as "plug and play", not "plug, dismantle assembly, rearrange lights and then play"   :fighting:    :signLOL:

Defo the first thing to check is RHD or LHD when getting front or rear lights  :happy2: saves a lot of headaches when coming to fit later on

Are the bulbs the same though each side?

No idea mate...  I've packed the lights up back into the original packaging (still in mint condition) and am seeing if I can get them exchanged.
