Hi from the N/East
« on: November 19, 2011, 04:26:31 pm »
Hello to you all. I've been lurking around this forum for some years and I think it's about time I contributed. I'm also a member of SCN and was on there quite alot when I owned an FR and a Cupra(both Leon 1p). I've now got a misano red 3 door A3 2.0 TFSI Sline. Had it for about 10 months now and tbh it's been a bit of an unlucky car. Anyway it's here to stay for the time being and I've done a few mods.

Sorry about the photos, but I had a crap camera at the time so here's how it started:

I then bought a set of 18" speedlines from a lad on wheel-whores. They needed a bit of attention so off they went to thewheelspecialist in Newcastle who split, powder coated them in black chrome and rebuilt them:

Before I could get them on someone decided to reverse into my front wing:sad1: So after driving it around like a shed for what seemed like months the insurance company got it  sorted. A new wing and front spoiler were fitted and I had the rear bumper painted as there were some scuffs. The body shopalso fitted a black grill free of charge :happy2:

Re-painted the calipers:

I also decided to fit some eibach sportlines(50/40 drop), added 10mm spacers to the rear and MY09 rear lights:

Not alot of mods I know but I want to keep it simple and OEM+. The car is going into Volksparts(Durham) on Thursday to have the KW shocks and spring kit fitted. The eibachs are terrible(lesson learned there) with the original shocks and the drop is way low on the back despite the offset. I'm getting next to no damping so going for slightly less drop (35mm) to increase comfort and give me a bit more clearence for the forthcoming snow lol.

Thanks for looking and look forward to adding to the site.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Usually on ASN now but I've found alot of inspiration on here. The technical section for the tfsi engine is more informed I find and it's quite chilled....dare I say it, no snobery either

Seen you on SCN Mike. Love the interior mods you've done lately. Are you a fellow dee dah btw?

Still got the rs6 wheels but I can't decide what to do with them. Might have to go back on cos I keep telling myself I need an eddy with speedlines next lol. The chrome over black effect looks fantastic in the flesh but they are a bugger to clean.

Maybe next spring. I've never ran a remap before and the cars running very efficiently atm. I can easily get 40 mpg avg on my daily 25 mile round trip(admittedly with a very light foot) so don't want to lose that. PDtuning are on my doorstep and they get some good reviews on here so we'll see.

The efficiency may well improve with a remap, plus you'll have the extra power there for whenever you want / need it (at the expense of mpg)

Im certainly gonna look into it once the suspension has been sorted.

I spoke to a well respected tuner up here who said that on his custom map the torque can be set to come on lower in the rev range thus making it more fuel efficient? Not knowing much about this I would imagine that's a simplified explanation.

The other concern I have is the stoppers. Never a worry with the Cupra but do the standard Gti/sline brakes cope ok?
