Yes, because of the incredible sound the BMW straight six provided.

The new 2.0 Turbo offers more torque and is cheaper to build. That's it.

Economy? No, the BMW DFI 3.0 straight six was one of the most efficient
engines on the market. The 325i outperformed the similar powered
advanced 2.0 TFSI A4/A5 engine with Valvetronic in several comparisons.

I had a 325i and it was a horrendously uneconomical car. The engine in the 328i/528i looks fantastic, a far better proposition than any straight six...

Pete I reckon the A1 would beat both the GTR and Porsche, the A1 being alot lighter and with 500bhp what would it take to match it :scared:

I'd love to see them at each others throats. The brutal power to weight ratio must give some of the supercars a run for their money  :party:

... The only downside is noise, and that can be engineered (new M5 for example).

That's a V8 though - they'd have to do something seriously wrong for it to sound boring, lets face it?!

I stick with my original points about the sound - I think if you buy a premium brand car higher up the engine range, part of the package needs to be soulful acoustics and I just don't think a straight four will offer that, so it would be the respective TDI engines that would take my preference if you're talking 4 cylinders (which will as per usual be slightly more economy anyway I expect.)

The latest 3.0 l direct injection 325i that is still offered as coupé and convertible??
