Fitting a Towbar to a mk5 GTi...

Can anybody help....?

I want to fit a detachable towbar to my mk5 gti..... will i have to cut the bumper, have read somewhere that i might have to buy a "new skirt" from vee dubya..?

Any advice much appreciated...

Assuming we're talking a stock GTi and not an ED30 I'd suggest a Westfalia removable tow bar and a replacement lower rear bumper section from VW with the removable panel. VW call the lower bumper half  a 'spoiler' on ETKA, and it's about £50 + vat (part # 26 on the image below).

The towbar can be bought from any number of online sources, and it's a doddle to DIY.

I took a towbar off my GT Sport which I'm going to advertise as soon as I get to 25 posts! It is not detachable but you do not have to cut or replace any bit of the bumper. I think it is called a swan neck? You can unbolt it and leave a little bit of bracket showing.

I'm needing a bumper strengthener bar. Part no 1 on the ETKA sheet above (which you will be removing for the tow bar) so a deal for a swap and £40 + postage my way is here if you're interested.

Undo two bolts and it is like this.



I just tucked the electrics up and cable tied them in a poly bag.
