Given it was a Bank Holiday weekend, I had planned for a mega-detail. But then found out it was going to rain on Monday (Forecastfox now says it's gonna be sunny!
), so car never got polished
Had problems with painting the hubs (Hammerite doesn't like to stick to them). They're gonna need to be re-done, probably when I swap the rims over again and when my back stops hurting!
Despite being up at 6am, the squits meant I couldn't start on the car until 10am and I did two of the hubs. Detailing started at 1pm until 6pm.
Pics of the typical condition of the car:
The car hadn't been washed in two months, lots of motorway miles etc. But did keep the windows clean on a regular basis.
Process:
- soaked the car with water
- Bilberry Wheel Cleaner on the wheels, left in to soak, used mitt to wash and Swissvax brush to reach brakes; repeat and rinse
- Megs APC 1:4 over bodywork (rinsing wheels often to protect them); rinse
- DJ BTBM shampoo wash x2
- wiped dry and clayed with Megs Smooth Surface clay (I prefer its aggressiveness over Sonus Green)
- rims coated in PB wheel sealant and wiped
- windows cleaned with MF soaked in AG Fast Glass
- IPA wipedown
- Lime Prime Lite
- Lusso Oro, managed one coat, buffed
- Megs Endurance Tyre dressing
Things I didn't get to do:
- polish the car!
- treat the rubber trim
- more coats of wax
After pics:
Didn't get to do any fancy pics. Even went for a drive to find some spots but everything was closing or closed. Will try and take some pics tomorrow.
Special thanks to:
- Nouseticles for his rims
- Jim & Taryn @ Autoperfection for their advice and products. Sorry I couldn't polish the car - didn't do the Lusso much justice
- Flora for some advice on painting
- Everyone who responded to my "alloy help - urgent" thread when I thought I'd cocked the car up!
Really surprised how befitting the Monzas are to the MK5. It makes the car look a whole lot better. I'm keeping them on the car for a few days and once my body's recovered, I'll swap back to the Pescaras.
