Winter steel wheel question
« on: November 24, 2011, 08:55:09 pm »
Hi just wondered if anyone can help me with my problem. I've decided to buy some steel wheels with winter tyres from mytyres.co.uk but I have a choice of:

6 x 16 5 x 112.00 x 57.00 ET: 50.00 5-hole steel wheel (9535) or 6½ x 16 5 x 112.00 x 57.00 ET: 50.00 5-hole steel wheel (9915)

Which ones are the correct ones, I emailed them but they were unable to help as they haven't got a technical department. Thanks in advance.

+1 for the 6 and a half wheels ET 50. I've got the exact(ish) wheels going on my car albeit in alloy form. See page one of my build thread (in signature below) foe how they should look. I have 312mm gti brakes on the front and they clear them no problems.

None of them if thy are from mytyres, try ringing them and getting any sense from ther staff, they know nothing about tyres and are just a middleman outfit that sell allsorts.

I ordered some winter tyres from them in October 2010, none arrived, struggled getting a refund and ended up forcing a chargeback through the credit ard company 5 month later.

They are well known for selling items they dont actually have or can get. I though I was a one off, then found that loads of people on pistonheads had the same issues,

I have one experience with mytyres and it echoes this.

Ordered M&S tyres last October also which were 'in stock' - three weeks later and nothing, they then told me they were out of stock after I rang a few times. They offered no alternative or solution other than to wait, while the snow battered down on us.

It took a lot of harassment to get my refund and it was only because I initiated a PayPal claim.

Thanks for the heads up. Don't think i'll bother with mytyres.co.uk if thats the service you get!

Any ideas where to get the steel wheels cheap i've looked on a few sites and they want at least £60 a wheel (without tyre)  :surprised:

Cheers for info guys I was just about to order the same steel wheels and some Nankang tyres from mytyres!!

It did seem a little too cheap and easy at £463 all in, I've not been able to get close to their quote from anyone else, I phoned them and they were totally useless when I asked a simple question.

Does anyone know if clickontyres is any good??

Nice one!

I used clickontyres after trying mytyres and had a small issue of it taking a couple of weeks to arrive.
However, that was when couriers were not trying to get to parts of the North East, and it affected his own stock coming in.

Once he got them in they arrived next day. Would use them again.

I used clickontyres.com for my winter tyres. Shan't be using them again.

Readily took payment and then no delivery for four weeks. As per mytyres, I reckon they're a middle man company. No comments/emails etc to say out of stock. Had to email and call them to get any follow up. They cited problems with Vredestein not supplying enough out and said they'd be available from 2nd Novemeber onwards. I received mine ten days after that.

Surprisingly, I used lovetyres.com for my sister's car and they delivered within two working days.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I ordered a set of tyres for my car and my wife's car of mytyres in September and 6 of the 8 were delivered about a week or so later.  I complained two were missing and they were dispatched straight away with no fuss.  The courier they use, DPD, have an excellent tracking system.

Would have been nice if they delivered them all in one go but they sorted the issue out quickly which is the main thing.

Guess its pot luck .... which is no way to run a business but I found their service to be pretty good.
