My GT TDI not picking up speed??? any ideas what it might be

I was driving on the motorway doing about 70-80MPH, after about an hour it slows down and was not picking up speed. immediately the engine management light came on and after i parked on hard sholder, started again and the car drove however does not pick up speed at all, it drives perfectly fine but picks up speed very gradually basically im changing gear every 2000 revs thee about? any ideas what prob this might be. would be much appreciated guys :confused:

have you had it scanned? any error codes?

Sounds like it's driving like a non-turbo.  :scared: Is there any abnormal amount of smoke coming out of your exhaust? What, if any, modifications do you have done to the car?

As said above, best thing to do is get it plugged into a diagnostic program i.e. VCDS and see what faults are registered on that.  :smiley:

no smoke coming from exhaust, it drives like a normal car. there are no modifications done currently. thanks yes i have dropped it to garage will let you know what they say

Sounds like stuck a vnt on the turbo that isn't resetting when you turn it off.I'm new to these cars but had similar on mines but would reset when ignition switched off.

yes thats right I noticed when turning the ignition off and on it reset it, apparently it was the turbo cover of some sort which was loose and had come off which triggered the engine management light to come on. It was a matter of just put it back on. All sorted now thanks guys
