Did you get them to check the alloys before giving them the car?
Did you inspect the alloys before they handed the keys back?

If not, your case is weaker. If you can prove the marks were made by the tyre peeps, you'll be okay. It's a case of "could this have happened whilst repairing a puncture/replacing a tyre?".

Go down and see what they say.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

If you want to send pics of the marks i can give my " 3rd party visual inspection " its usually blindingly obvoius what damage a tyre fitter can cause and what is kerb damage.  Working with wheels, i get to see lots of damaged alloys and have myself damaged alloys on a tyre machine.  they will also know if they have damaged a wheel........ PM if you need any advise  :happy2:

This happened to me when I got 3 new tyres - they scratched every single wheel they changed a tyre on... I was going to go back and complain but I didn't think I had a leg to stand on seeing as I had no proof that the scrapes weren't there before... and I'm talking pretty noticable scrapes too... wishing I had now  :-(((

I would always go back.  the damaged to a wheel from a trye machine is completely different to what you would do on the road.  You will damage a wheel deeper by hitting a kerb and it will more that likely be on the face edge.  A tyre machine will be more like a scratch and in a place that could only be done when a tyre is fully deflated / off.
