Connecting my iPhone to RCD310
« on: November 27, 2011, 08:09:43 pm »
Hi all

Let's just say I have an RCD310 and the latest Canbus and aerial adapter in my 2006 Mk5...

What other components do I need in order to connect my iPhone/iPod up to my head unit so I can navigate through the songs on my iPhone and play music through the car's speakers?  I would like to be able to connect my phone through the armrest.

Sorry if this is a dumb question  :ashamed:

Cheers bud!   :happy2:

So on the eBay I have seen this item here:  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-SEAT-SKODA-MEDIA-IPOD-LEAD-ADAPTER-GENUINE-MDI-/250940489944?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item3a6d3800d8#ht_1948wt_1156

Will that work?  It just seems to be a lead but its only £12   :surprised:  Can't I just use that cable?

A couple of traders have quoted an MDI for £250 - that being the case then why is the eBay link so cheap???

the link you have here is only the iphone for the MDI kit, demon666. He should be able to sort a complete kit for much less than approx £210. His kit will have everything you need.
you will need the whole kit. Have a chat to

You will require the MDI box too. But to answer your question,

If you have full MFD2/3 FIS display then you will be able to access the playlist, music etc. from the display with steering wheel controls.

Otherwise from the rcd310. It works surprisingly well.
You will need to upgrade to the latest firmware on the MDI, otherwise you might loose a couple of seconds from the begin of songs or the song name that does not always update.
