Hi guys, I'm just going to contact the guy again. He says the screens are the same as OEM except heated (I'll ask about tints). It will need wiring up via 2 relays and a dash switch (as mentioned maybe into the rear screen heater to keep costs down, although I did find these... http://carstyle4you.com/index.php?cPath=16_22_33_47 lol)

What exactly do people mean by the green and blue tint? I.e. is it the whole screen or is it a strip at the top?

LOL,

http://carstyle4you.com/popup_image.php?pID=306.jpg

The colour of the glass on GTi's are blue tinted where as non GTi's are green so some members will need green screens and some blue.
Green with a blue top tint would look  :happy2:

Sadly german GTIs from 2006 on only have the green tint
as VW thought they need to save some money.
The R32 still had blue tint till the end of production.

Heard back from the guy again, he's probably thinking I'm a huge pain in the ass after all my questions!

Anyway, the screens as provided in an OEM Green tint (no blue available from what I can tell). The system could be wired into the rear switch but it would need to be used to activate the relays "as the switch would not be man enough"!

For the people with the sensor (like me!) it would apparently be an additional £13 per screen. Not sure why but I'll find out. I'll ask about leon screens but may be best to email him yourself (as you will need 5+ and I'm sure they'll be loads of people on SCN)

If we need to put down deposits to further this are people willing? Pending more info and items needed and approximate fitting cost obviously. Hopefully after christmas too!

Il defo have one as my windscreen needs to come out to sort a bit of paint at the corner so would be a perfect time to replace with a heated one.

Right, I'm going to make a list of interest. I want definites and maybes please (definite being willing to put a deposit down)

Definite:
1) Me

Maybe:
1)Kregiel
2)Stevenebm
3)TonyZed
4)mortygttdi
5)galaxie500
6)JoeDarKa
7)blackmagic
8)big al
9)G-Lader
10)Comms

If I've missed anyone/you dont want to be on a maybe list/you want to be moved to the definite list then please let me know. We've got more than enough for an order though!

To sum up, £246 for the screen (comes in green tint, no blue option sorry) + £13 for those with sensors. It will need to be wired into the 12v battery via 2 relays which could be activated using the rear heated screen button (or you could buy another stand alone button but more £££)
The lead time is 7-12 weeks from ordering and fitting can be done by a windscreen fitter and needs to be wired in by an automotive electrician (unless you are handy and can do it yourself) delivery £60 + VAT for all screens to one location.

Lets not miss out on getting this! If we can get the minimum of 5 orders maybe we can showcase ours to the rest and they may be more tempted in the future :)

Hi Guys,

Thanks to malaroo978 for organising this initiative!

In terms of payments would paypal be an option here? If not I think for our all peace of mind could one of admins or a senior member of the forum take a lead along with malaroo978 on this one?
Maybe I am a bit paranoid but since it's a public forum I think for all our sake it would be reasonable before any of us make any payment.

Also malaroo978 can we get more details regarding the supplier?

I welcome all your thoughts

Hey guys, I'd be more than willing (and grateful) for any help. I'm not a particularly hands on person so I'll definitely be needing to find someone to fit the windscreen and wire it in for me. Where to do this and how much this will be... I dont know. Any suggestions?!

As for the actual supply of the glass it would be £60 + VAT for delivery of all windscreens to ONE location. Not particularly helpful since we're all probably from different parts of the country. I can find out how much individual postage will be but probably not cheap.

Maybe the best way is to find a central location with a garage willing to take delivery and fit and wire up all our screens for us. Saves on postage and will surely save on fitting (although depends on where people are from as distances may be huge!) but again, I dont know anywhere so any suggestions welcome.

As for payment for the screens, it would be a deposit until the glass is at the location for delivery. I'd be more than happy for someone else to take on receiving/handling the money. Over on SCN.net the way they managed to get a group buy for the screens organised was through one of the site sponsors who was also a trader. He took all deposits and ordered the screens. Then final payments were made when they were shipped. Not sure if there are any traders out there willing?!

If someone took on a stock of 5 screens say and we gave them deposits and pay upon receiving them then that may work out best.

As for details on the supplier, they have been mentioned by a couple of people and are meant to be decent quality (anyone who has had one have any pics?) The link is: http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/index.html
And he sells plenty of other screens on a regular basis to other car owners.

Other than that I'm as much in the dark! So I'm hoping for some help going forward in finding a place for fitting and a means of mass payment (failing that we could indiviually pay the supplier)

Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks, James

I need to check if I'm in the blue or green tint brigade.

As I'm on a 06 55 plate, I'mon the cusp, so not sure which it is.

If it's a blue tint, I'm a no. I'll let you know asap.
