Heated Screen Group Buy - MKV Golf
« on: December 02, 2011, 11:29:35 am »
Hey everyone, I've been looking into getting a heated windscreen fitted to the MKV golf. Obviously not an option but companies can make them.

I've been missing a heated windscreen as I've just changed from a Focus with a heated windscreen to the Golf GT Sport. I love the golf so much more! But it doesnt stop me from missing the heated windscreen. It is so useful, it clears misting and ice so much quicker than A/C does and in my opinion safer as you get quick clearing when you need it.

Anyway, I've had a response from a company I contacted ( http://www.heatedwindscreen.com/ ) saying they have previously made heated windscreens for the MKV golf but for the german market. They will be able to make some for £205 + VAT (£246) for a minimum run of 5 although I'm sure if we got more numbers it could be less. There is a lead time of 7-12 weeks for production so unfortunately it does mean that we wouldn't have it in time for this winter. But if we looked for getting it all ordered and sorted for next summer then we could have them in time for the next winter.

Before looking into it further I want to see if I could at least get the minimum number of people then look more into sorting out a garage that would fit and wire them in (maybe somewhere central for a meet and get more discount on fitting)

So I'm really hoping some of you guys are interested! Please let me know if you are and I'll compile a list. The more we can get the cheaper it will be I'm sure.

If you havn't tried a heated screen before I can assure you they are so much easier to use than normal clearing and its definitely a must have if you use your car a lot in the winter!

Cheers all, James

I have had a screen made from them before and it was great.  Well worth the money.  Fully cleared in around 15 secs and fairly straighforward to wire too.

I'd be interested, but would like more info too re top tint etc.

I need a new screen anyway, so this must be worth a thought. How much is a normal one?

I'm sure one of the higher spec cars has the heated windscreen?? Not in the golf but maybe passat or something, wiring should be straight forward and i'm sure we can find a proper vw button to go in the center dash.

I'm very interested...need a large enough stone to hit the screen  :signLOL:

I'd definitely be interested although would want the wiring - route, switchgear and connections clearly explained and illustrated, preferably on a demonstrator we could all see.
One problem I presume has not been overlooked; that of the auto headlights and rain sensors. Would the tiny filaments in the heated screen confuse this system?
I've an Edition 30. Would the correct tint colour green be available?
Thanks

The auto rain/light sensor would not be a problem, I had it on my focus st and had the auto sensor in that.

Heated screen on my CR 170 Elegance Yeti - £215 option, bargain!

(also available on Superb, but not Octavia!)

You can see the elements in certain light conditions but it's not a problem - clears screen VERY quickly.

I'd buy it again every time!
