Darren, any ideas? I've coded this (30 byte controller) as per above, and not a sausage. Not working at all!

The new passat and none gti polo use the standard fogs that are dimmed :happy2:

I thought this would be ideal for your use Robin, has you could actual strip the Hella wiring out and use the standard car loom for your DRL leds :happy2:

Darren

....Indeed it may be ideal and knowing you are expert in these things I would take notice of your advice. However, I don't have any problems with the way my DRLs operate now so as it works, I see no need to mend it.  :happy2:

Does anyone know if it is possible to active the mainbeam or highbeam lights as DRL's again just set at 10% power? i.e. MK6 look

I personally think this would look much better than fog lights.

....Those are the worst kind of DRL in my opinion. You need the intensity of LEDs. Proper DRLs are LED.

+1

There is nothing more annoying than some plonker driving with fog lights on when it's not foggy.

DRLs are bad enough, but fog lights?  Why?

Sounds daft, but I think it's a way to signify that you're driving around in something that isn't just the base model, hence the fact it's normally young lads in Astras or Corsas.

Can i just say this is getting a bit boring now, if you don't like it go start another thread with your rants...

The drl's are becoming the norm situated in the fog light same has the cornering lights, and to be honest if I didn't know Robin and saw his car I would think young guy driving round with some hid fogs??? I don't mean to *iss people off but this is the way its going with the drl's

As long as they function as DRLs I don't mind. What I hate is the numpties who drive around at night using only their fogs!

The most important is VOSA. If it passes their assessment, no issues.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I am also 38 and fitted DRL's in the lower grilles of my vRS, initially done for safety, but I actually quite like look of them.  Also bear in mind that any car built from January next year will have to have them as a legal requirement, so get used to it!  :P

I do think that the flexible strips of blue LED carp as fitted to cars generally driven by our Eastern European companions are.......

For those people who prefer the LED DRL look how about these as an alternative bulb?

Don't know if they will throw up any errors or how they would look if you dim them by say 25% but it may make your fogs look more like an LED - think this maybe the way forward if your running them all the time

....That's just the point - It absolutely is NOT fine! Headlights are not a passive light whereas purpose-made LED DRLs are a passive light and hence a proper DRL by definition. But this is a debate/argument which can run on and on and on and on and on....................

....I'm 64yo so I find that having DRLs works better than some other anti-aging products on the market.

Nice one Robin

I didn't actually realise you was that young :happy2: Asker on the other GTI forum is 63 but until I saw him I would have thought maybe in his late 30s mainly due to his passion for modding is car to OEM+
