Best way to get the centre dash to stop squeaking?
« on: December 02, 2011, 10:45:08 pm »
Just wondering what the best remedy is to stop the centre dash on my GT TDI squeaking.. I took it apart today and put some foam tape in and around the areas i thought might have been the offenders but it's still doing it a bit.. anyone got any good remedies? Mainly seems to be coming from the top vent area facing the windscreen..

I found that if you jam a used rail card in-between the dash and the plastic vent part... that works fine! (and yes... ill take a photo if you dont believe me) :signLOL:

I was really surprised at how the centre dash all comes apart today, did you 'jam' the rail card underneath the centre vent?

If you put some foam or similar in the part where the trim removal tool is, that will stop a lot of squeaks. (Not my picture I just found it online)

I've also done the card between the dash and vent and it worked quite well. I got fed up with the card sticking out the dash in the end though so removed the vent and put draught excluder around the edge!

Was able to record the noise Im currently experienceing since day one of ownership. Sounds like its coming from behind the dash, but when i stuck my head in the drivers foot well it sounded like it was coming from inside the engine bay. Only ever happens when the engine is ticking over. Checked the usual suspects behind the left/right dash cover and they were nice and tight. Seeing threads like this only reminds me how annoying it is. Thanks.  :rolleye:

Anyone had/got a similar noise???
