Sorry everyone!

I should have made myself a lot clearer!!  :ashamed:

I was responding to an earlier thread about the Skoda Octavia VRS, and it got me thinking, if I really could not have a Golf (God forbid), what would I drive? I'm really thinking about what us mere mortals can afford, so I've re-set the parameters:

Under 45,000 retail if new or current shape
No Porsche
No Lambo's

My top two would be as follows:

1988 Audi Quattro
Mk 1 Seat Leon Cupra R 225

I had one of these and it looks awesome.  Didnt do corners though, it was more like trying to tack a yacht

Mine was the 2.8V6.  It was slow, handled like a barge, cost me loads in maintenance and repairs, but i loved it :laugh:

The best thing is, i only bought it to spite my missus, who when i mentioned id like to buy it, she told me, i wasnt allowed.  That night i had a lovely audi coupe.

I see her point, having a 2 door coupe with a 1 year old child isnt ideal, but i proved my manhood and thats what counts

MK5GTian - A friend of mine had one, identical to the one in the picture and i had the pleasure of a shotgun ride.

The sound was addictive and for saying they're  20 odd years old now i was really suprised with how quick it was and how it handled  :driver:

Why the 88 version?
I found the 10 valve so laggy and borring to drive were the 89-90 20V was move fun and had little lag.
