VW Up! - My Letter in Autocar 16th November Issue
« on: December 04, 2011, 08:16:54 pm »

I had a letter published in Autocar 3 weeks ago. It read;

VW NEEDS TO UP THE POWER

'I love the new Up but I hope VW does a GTi version.
It could rip out the 1.0 3 cylinder petrol engine and
shoehorn in the 178bhp 1.4TFSI engine from the Audi
A1. As the Up weighs about the same as a multipack
of Quavers, the performance would be amazing. I know
I'm missing the point of the Up - low emissions, high
economy, but it would be awesome nonetheless'.

What do you think? Spritual successor to the original 1.6 Mk1 GTi?

Yes! The proverbial of a shovel! I recall reading about 225 bhp 1.8T's in Lupos. I'm all up for ridiculous power in tiny Dubs!

Search for V12 lupo on youtube some fun videos on there
I like the idea of a UP GTI as a mk1 owner and i can see VW marketting going for it but it will be dull and slow sadly selling on the badges only.
I also see the UP selling only on theVW badge as for interior i think the hyundai i10 has it beat.
Ex mk5 GTI owner, moved to a mk6 in 2010.

It depends what they put in it. If the 1.4 TFSI fits, It'd be far from slow! It's really light, so 178 bhp would be massive.
