I was looking for this last week. The manual says to run whatever is listed on the fuel cap for both winter and summer tyres.

I Know, but I'm suprised 18" low profile tyres would be at the same pressure as these.

Do 16's fit over the GTi brakes?

I looked into this and from reading round, I came to the conclusion the GT Sport brakes were the same size as the GTI one. I'm running a set of 16" GT alloys.

Nowadays manufacturers recommend you run your winter tyres at the same pressure as you're summer tyres. 16's may (but may not) differ from 18 inch tyres, you'll need to check this up.

GTI brakes have a 312mm brake disc on the front where as GT or Sport models have 288mm front brakes discs.

16 inch alloy wheels (at least OEM vw wheels) WILL fit over the standard GTI brake set-up.

HTH

Several vehicle manufacturer's owner's manuals recommend operating winter tires several psi (typically 3-5) higher than their recommended pressures for summer and all-season tires.

I ran all our families and customers at normal pressure without any trouble at all the last 2 winters

Thanks all!

I'm running 16" Contis and steel wheels bought off Ebay to VW spec. Yes they do fit over the brakes with no problems.

The feel and handling of the car is very different though - as it would be. Steering much lighter, bouncier from the fat tyres but a bit more comfortable over the pot holes of course. And right now, I'm glad I got them on.
