Fuel Flap not engaging.
« on: December 01, 2011, 01:08:04 pm »
So, had the MK5 Jetta 140tdi for a month now.
Fixed a rear light prob, put rubber mats in and topped up the oil.
Booked in for cambelt water pump and major service.

But, last week the fuel flap failed to engage / click shut again after a fill up!

The electric bit is working as I can hear it making that fizz noise when you press the button, but the flap isn't locking shut now.
Luckily as its spring loaded this isn't obvious to any wannabe syphoners, but needs sorting.

Has anyone had a similar prob, or taken the mech apart for any other reason and can give some guidance?

Cheers
Paulo.

(apart from this its an awesome car, the mpg figures are just amazing!!)

Well, I fixed it.
There is a plastic section to the latch and a metal section.
It would appear the plastic section was stuck in the "open" position,
and after a bit of lube and manipulation it works again now!

Free fix....YAY!!  :happy2:
