I guess I'm in the right place... Hello...
« on: December 07, 2011, 04:11:08 pm »
I've just bought a Mk5 Golf GTI for Mrs dw1 as our family car. It was a bit impetuous and I probably rushed in, hence only now googling for a suitable forum. Lo and behold with a name like this forum I guess you couldn't get any more specific  so I guess I'm in the right place.

I'm now going through the process of working out exactly what I bought compared to the car dealers description! I know little to nothing about Golfs and all their options. I know that his description of iPod, Bluetooth and cruise control were  imaginative. I think he meant to put at the end ...'can be added if you want to go out and buy those options later on'    The fully loaded 05 cars seemed quite rare and tend to sell quickly if priced around £8.5-9,k I had just missed one and jumped at this next one.

Still overall I'm very pleased with the car, it's an 05 plate in very good nick with leather, winter pack, MFD2 satnav, 6CD, 18" Monza's, Highline display, MFSW... by searching your great site I'm starting to get the lingo as I now know what those mean

I'm very impressed with the gti so far. It's quicker than I expected, it really wants to sprint the whole time, it's a great feeling and Mrs dw1 loves it, especially the heated seats.

I have a couple of questions:
1. Can cruise control be done by the buttons on the MFSW?

2. How simple is it to hook up an iPod so that it charges and keeps the 6cd?

Judging by the vibe I've picked up from browsing the forum it seems like a great community.

Welcome  :happy2: Cruise can be fitted easily, there are a few good guys on here who doit, Eddie-NL did mine for me, cruise control is operated by the stalk not steering wheel buttons, those buttoms are for highline operation and radio volume/telephone etc (if you have BT?).

Sorry cant help with geekpad questions as I dont own one

.
If you intend to keep your bank balance healthy you may not be in the right place!

But joking apart, it is a warm community and everyone is very helpful.

Re your iPod question, my GTI is a 05-plate (06-build spec) and needed to have a cable routed from the headunit (Alpine) to the glove box with a port for my iPod. Darren aka mortygttdi is an expert here on such things.

Thanks for the warm welcome fellas.

@redrobin - lol I know the modification bug all too well, it's dangerous, I've slid, surfed and high sided down that slippery slope, but for the family wagon I will resist, I will resist, err I will try and resist :) (apart from cruise control and iPod adaptor)

@tamiyoman - good to hear fitting cruise is easy, I looked at a link which showed the steering wheel coming off to do it, which looked extreme and beyond my DIY skills.
