Monza 2 refurb in Surrey?
« on: December 06, 2011, 05:28:41 am »

My Mrs drives my Mark 5 to work every day as I run a decorating business and use a van  :sad1:

The thing is, she seems to have stopped using the wheels, in conjunction with the kerb, as a secondary braking system; so I reckon the time could be right for refurb.

Paintwork has all been sorted, so this is next on the list.

Can anyone recommend a good refurber for my Monza 2's please. I live in Guildford, but happy to go anywhere in Surrey or West Sussex.

Thanks a lot,

Ian

Another recommendation for you bud    Wicked wheels in Slyfield Industrial estate.... their work is spot on and they do have a great reputation but the guy who owns it is a miserable and rude b*stard, I'm surprised he gets any business with his attitude but the reason he does get non stop business is because the quality of their work is 1st rate and highly regarded by enthusiasts in Surrey.

If you don't fancy going down that route then Google Lepsons as they are a great national firm and used them a few times myself, funnily enough I went through Bells as they have a trade account so had the wheels collected from them as in the past Lepsons never collected from private customers as you had to drop them off yourself but they may have changed that policy now.  :drinking:

Another vote for Lepsons , had my Monza's recently refurbed there and they did a fantastic job - went with black gloss inners with polished / lacquered face.

A friend dropped mine off Saturday morning and they were ready Wednesday morning .

Mine weren't in very good condition at all ( like that when I bought the car ) and I was gob smacked on the finish they achieved - highly recommended .

Mark

mark, if you dont mind me asking how much did it cost you for the 4 wheels to be done, could you post pics?? do they now look like the shadows?

And a quick general question for everyone, I have the standard Monza's 17" can you get the same design in 18" or are all 18's Monza 2's? Does that make sense?

Thanks again Conan,

I've had a price from Richard at Bells of 80 quid a corner through Lepsons, but it takes 4 days.

I'll probably get it serviced there in Feb at the same time as it is having it's drivers seat done.

He said they'll put it on a ramp until the wheels are returned.

All jobs done in one hit, and then it's Stage 1 Time!   :jumpmove:

I'll swerve the grumpy chap. Life's too short to deal with people like that, even if they do do  a great job!

I agree, It's not worth spending your money with the miserable dude, I just know they are good at what they do but it still hasn't swayed me to take any wheels there due to his attitude.

Lepsons are probably the easiest bet through bells, I presume your having them diamond cut at that price??  Not sure if your aware but Amd in Woking are great firm for servicing and revo mapping etc, Simon who owns it is an awesome guy and I have always taken my cars there to be looked after  :happy2:

Hi Mandy,

I don't have pics of the wheels done yet, as I'm getting them done when it's due a service.

The Monza 2's have a special finish rather similar to a compact disc. This is done by using a lathe and a diamond coated disc (I think!) to cut the surface of the metal in the circular pattern you see close up. It can only be done by specialist firms, and takes longer than the normal process.
