Stolen wheel bolts.

Hi everyone.

The other day I was washing my Edition 30, and noticed that 3 out of the 5 wheel bolts have been stolen.
Have no idea when this must have happened, but I have probably been driving around for a week or so with only 2 bolts holding my back left wheel on!!!

Anyway, I was wondering if someone could tell me exactly which spec of bolt I need. I have a 2009 MK5 Golf GTI edition 30.
I would like to get the McGard anti-theft ones. As far as I can work out, the ones I need are McGard Ultra 28018SL.

I would like a set of 20 of them so that none of them can be stolen in the future.
Is it possible to get a set of 20 which all only need one key. As far as I can see they only sell them in packs of 4 and each pack has a separate key.

Sounds like someone wanted to treat themselves to an early Christmas present and your alloys were on the shopping list to be honest!

You sure they're being stolen and not falling out?

What are you torquing them up to?

They should be torqued to 110 nm, I doubt they have fallen out I'm with the op that someone took a fancy to them

I am pretty sure that they were stolen. 3 gone from one wheel. I had the alloys refurbed about 4 months ago by a proper place, so I assuming they did them up correctly.
Plus, the area that I work in has its fare share of criminals.

any ideas to my question anyone?

The McGard Ultra 28018SL are the correct fitment but afaik you should only use one locking nut per wheel...

yeah its not recomended to use a locking nut in every single nut though.

you don't normally torque the locking bolt as tightly as the normal one so it's a safey issue.

Nope.  Never had an issue.  I think the bolts have just fallen out due to the painting and paint maybe being left in the holes.

I would say they have just fallen out as I found a couple of loose bolts a few weeks after having a tyre repaired

When i needed a full set of bolts i just asked my local vw garage who gave me them free.  :happy2:

I would suspect that if they have been stolen its a one off. Defo not something you hear of everyday!  :surprised:

Somebody once stole the electric mirror glasses off of my brothers transit. Pure one off.....

I would never use 20 mcgard locking bolts!

I used one set (1bolt per wheel) and I had a nightmare trying to release one of them. It was so tight that it damaged the locking key.
I eventually managed to reshape the key with a dremel and then I hammered it onto the bolt. I then took off all the mcgard bolts and used another brand!
