Locking the Car??
« on: December 09, 2011, 08:42:39 am »
Hi not had my 2005 GTI long but I was told to lock the car by pushing the lock button twice on the keyfob, once to lock normally then again to apply the deadlocks.

Now if I push it once the red light flashes on the door and keeps flashing as you would expect to signify the alarm being on. But once you push the lock button again it sounds like it is applying the dead locks but the light stops flashing?

Does this mean my alarm is no longer on? Is this normal I dont know? Whats the best way to secure? Also not sure what a deadlock is haha! But I can only assume it is better locking ha!

Thanks,

Dan

Pressing the fob twice de-activates the ultra sonics inside and disables the deadlocks. One press is all thats required.

As above, one press only.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Pressing the fob twice de-activates the ultra sonics inside and disables the deadlocks. One press is all thats required.

I have an '07 GTI and, according to the owners manual, pressing the fob twice deactivates the deadlocks and the entire anti-theft alarm system.
Press fob once = Doors deadlocked + vehicle fully alarmed (i.e. No passengers left in vehicle).
Press fob twice = Doors locked, but not deadlocked + no part of alarm system activated (i.e. Passengers left in vehicle).
Press button on drivers side B pillar + fob once = Doors deadlocked + vehicle doors alarmed, but interior and anti-tow sensors disabled (i.e. Pets in vehicle).
Basically, make sure that your car is fully deadlocked + alarmed when left empty or your insurer will not pay out if it gets nicked.

Hope this helps.

Why would they make you press it twice? Surely everyone wants to activate deadlocks each time they leave their car? It'd be easier to do it with one press!
