forecast: winters coming?!
« on: December 15, 2011, 04:02:54 pm »
so with the winter forecast saying snow soon, friday night and or saturday my area,
what are peoples opinions on protection.  :santa:

apart from the obvious car cover what do people recommend?

wax? no wax? do people wash their tires and archs to help prevent salt samage.

if so what wax do you recomend.

my tips include wash and clean with two coats of wax. ensure all fluids are good with antifreeze etc check brakes and tires are correct psi (switch to winter tires if havnt already) newspaper pn windscreen to prevent ice or frost and i usually wipe with a tissue before hand. i use hotts anti mist in the inside of the car andhave a pot os those moisture capturing beans i leave on the dash to stop moisture from condensing the windows over night.

also when it snows i always grit the druve and road outside my house because the last thing i need is my car sliding when reversing out or someone sliding into me. :fighting:

also i installed my lovely newsouth boost gauge with out a hitch!  :drinking:

You need a good wax  :happy2:

Try Colinitie 476s (buy from Ebay) - thats the most durable wax around, lasts a good 6 months  :notworthy:

If you can find Megs 16 then this is a superb winter wax and the one I use but I think it has not been produced for a while but there may be some left on a shelf somewhere.
If not then go for Collinite 845 which although it will not give you a deep shine it will give your car its own protective blanket and is IMO much better as a winter protective wax than 476.

I prefer sealants over winter time - more durable. I went for FK1000P this winter. Last year it was two layers of FK and two of 476s.

Other than that, I break out the underbody lance for regular use. I use Gummi Pflege on the door rubbers to stop them sticking. Also switch interior velour mats to rubber mats.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
