Winter pack, what does it actually consist of?
« on: December 10, 2011, 11:39:41 pm »
Is winter pack standard on ED30\Pirelli's?

I thought it consisted of heated seats (pretty sure these are standard)
Head light washers
Heated Mirrors
Low washer fluid warning.

Not sure if the heated mirrors are standard on all ED30's or not.

Is there anything else if gives you?

Basically I am trying to work out if my car has it.
It has heated seats, head light washers (because it has Xenons)
And I think it has heated mirrors, well the symbol is there on the dial.

Also what were the options in the arm rest?
Was is either:
Nothing
Cd changer
I pod dock
???

Mine has an AUX port. Is this different to iPod dock or is this the same thing and I just need a cable?

Thanks in advance.

Tim,

No I don't believe the winter pack is standard on any of the models, as I've seen plenty of Ed30's and Pirelli's without headlight washers, which are indeed part of the winter pack combination.

My vehicle had the winter pack from factory and came with the four items you mentioned in your second paragraph. Heated seats certainly are not standard, as I've been in MK5 GTI's of all model/engine types both with leather and cloth interlagos seats, some with heated, many not.

Not sure regarding the heated mirrors being standard in all honesty, I've not really taken notice.

Re. the arm rest stuff, none of that is affected by having the winter pack. I think the 'Lux' or luxury pack decides what you may have here, plus other extras like the MDI interface and other arm rest options which I think are individually specc'ed :happy2:

If your car has Xenons, it would have headlight washers anyway (if factory fitted, presumably so).
The fact your car has heated seats would suggest you do have the winter pack, and the owner from new specc'ed the Xenons as an option also alongside the Winter pack.

Heated mirrors were standard on all GTI's.

I thought heated seats were standard with leather but otherwise came with the winter pack?  Mine has heated leather but it doesn't have the winter pack.

Winter Pack: Headlight washers, heated front seats, heated windscreen washer jets and low washer fluid warning light

If your car is an ED30/Pirelli with Xenons, then the extra stuff would be heated washer jets and low washer fluid warning.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Thanks for the info guys.

I have the original sales invoice for the car and it doesn't mention winter pack.
Lists all the other options like luc pack, cruise, xenons etc.

I guess I'll just have to run the fluid low and see if it warns me or spray the jets and see if they are warm.

I think ED30's had heated seats as standard.

Is that the case fella? Didn't know that at all. I'm sure I've been in an ED30 without the heated seat switch... Perhaps the climate panel had been replaced/altered

I'm quite possibly wrong on that one, wouldn't like to say for sure but I had that idea in my head from somewhere.

Wrt to the heated leather - My car deff doesn't have the winter pack and they are heated.  In the run out models leather with heat was definitely standard.  Perhaps it was an option prior to that but I can't understand why in Gods name you would have leather without heating.

Was surprised after looking at a few Audi's that they came with leather but no heat.  Torture in the winter.

The other thing to note is that if you have headlight washers your wash bottle is much bigger.

My GTI is supposed to have the winter pack too, according to the previous owner.

It has heated seats and mirrors, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have headlight washers.  I'm not sure about the windscreen washer jets being heated as they froze the other day.

Whats involved in enabling low washer fluid alarm?

That would be interesting if it could be turned on.
I still haven't managed to work out if my car has it.

It's one of those little features that should be standard.
I think it's shocking you have to spec it. The bottle is hard to see so it would be handy to have the warning when low.

Not sure if this is the case but do you get the washer light flash up along with the other lights when you put the keys in the ignition ?, surely this would not light up if you didnt have it installed.

If you activate the warning in VCDS and don't have the system for it, you'll get a permenant warning, even if it's full to the brim with screenwash.

The good news is it can be retrofitted. Our very own Eddie-NL can make up the loom http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,23583.0.html and he posted a How To at http://uk-mkivs.net/forums/p/335574/2267830.aspx.

I have retrofitted it, but as part of the headlamp washer loom. Would seem like a lot of work to do on its own so if you want to do it, consider doing other mods at the same time.
Used to have Edition 30 - number 009 and a GT TDI 140.
Now have an S4 B8 Avant (stage 2)

TBB if you check washer fluid on a weekly basis and before any long journies, I don't see why you need a warning light at all.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.
