Mk5 Black GTi near Swansea
« on: December 11, 2011, 01:15:21 pm »
Hi all,

I'm a newbie who picked up a Mk5 GTI recently in place of a Cooper S Convertible as my daily driver (about 600 miles a week). Photos to follow but its absolutely standard for now!  :evilgrin:  Once the current insurance is ready for a change the plan is for a new exhaust, K&N filter and a remap for a start ...

... but the three questions I have are;
1. I would like to upgrade the DV as I like the "whoosh" of an aftermarket but I don't want it to be too loud and chav-ish (is that even a word?) - everyone has the Forge but it needs maintenance and whilst I do routine maintenance I don't want the car up on ramps every
2.  that its a daily driver and I want to improve the chassis without lowering or making the ride any harsher (stiffer yes, harsher no!) or breaking the bank! On my V6 TT I managed this with H&R ARBs front and rear -so your collective advice please? Is the BBR handling kit and Whilteline Anti Lift kit the way to go?
3. I have the DSG without paddles ... (and despite searching) I can't find a conclusive answer on whether its possible (and economic) to retrofit the paddles?

Cheers.

Hi and welcome!

main responses from the forge valve is people have them on for a few days and get annoyed with them, plus quite a few people have commented on the loss of power if anything. because the spacer dumps the air rather than using it to keep the turbo spooled up nice, although im sure there's not a noticeable affect. If you want one, keep your eye on ebay as i've seen about 6 in the last month and a half go for cheap & forge themselves sell on 'used and returned' spacers.

I think forge now do a recirculating valve and I've seen there's a HKS one too:
. As for "Chav-ish" I'd stay away from anything that makes a chrip sound. I don't think you can beat the standard valve specially with a nice intake :D

have a look at this guy and send him a private message, he is on the forum and a few people have used him. I intend to get a cruise control fitted but ask him if he does the paddles, http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-Golf-Mk5-Cruise-Control-Supply-and-Fit-Gti-Gt-tdi-/130611338861?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e690ade6d#ht_2283wt_1388 Don't take my word for it though. Im sure someone here can give you a good idea on cost, I'd start by keeping an eye on ebay for breaking car's and see if you can get a good deal. What you need Im not sure, e.g. wiring loom, module, etc etc but it's bound to involve some rewrite on the ecu so good luck!!  :drinking:

Hope you enjoy the forum and your build goes well  :happy2:
