Runflats?

Am i correct in saying that you can change from runflats to normal tyres and it won't have any negative effect on the handling of the car? (a gain in handling I think?)

Friends got runflats on his rocco and is needing new tyres, does he just need to get the same load and speed etc?

Theres many people on the bmw forum I've read have done so with no adverse effect with the advantage of better ride comfort and cheaper cost against runflats.

My brother has a 120d msport an changed his 18s to non runflats for those reasons. Car much less jumpy. My sister also changed them on her mini- also found better comfort and handling

I have changed loads back to standard Tyres,I was told the run flats are optional extras now when you buy a new mini

Imo it was a bad move to go with runflats as there are cases of beemer owners with low profiles having cracks in their alloys after hitting a pothole for example.

Ditching the runflats will be the first thing I do when I get my hands on a 1 series coupe...
Drove 4 so far and the only one that had any degree of a decent ride both on terms of comfort and not feeling jittery and nervous was my cousins 123d on normal winters, massive difference to the rubbish runflats imo!

am i right im sayin that if you damage a runflat say u get a nail in 1, there is no way of repairing it?

my mum has a series 1 and im sure the guy at the garage said he wouldnt touch it with a  barge pole do to them being unstable if repaired?

yes you can repair them as long as its safe to do so ie not near the side wall--

I've had two brand new 335's and changed the tyres on them both times. I just carried a compressor and a can of tyre weld in the boot.  Oh and it transformed the ride and handling.

Ditching the runflats will be the first thing I do when I get my hands on a 1 series coupe...

 

My father had series 1 and was happy to give the runflats a kick.
He carried a compressor as well.

In a few days he will get his new 3 series Coupé. Sadly it comes with
runflat as standard.
BMW should offer an option for regular tyres.
