Engine ticking
« on: December 12, 2011, 11:12:41 am »
Went to look at an 07 GTI yesterday. Car has slightly high mileage (just short of 90) but was in excellent condition. Only fault I could find with it was that when I had the bonnet open, I could pick up the slighest wee ticking noise coming from the engine, really was pretty faint. This was the first GTI I've viewed so couldn't compare it to any others. Just wondering is this a common issue and what exactly is it, tappets / injectors?

Thanks

The TFSI engine which is in the GTI, is known for sounding like a diesel, so if this is what you can here, then you are lucky it is just a faint sound.  :happy2:

Hmmm could be that as I've not looked at another to compare, difficult to describe but it sounded like a light ticking (reminded of a vauxhall XE or cosworth YB abiet alot lot fainter). Maybe that is just the type of them and I was looking too much into it but just thought I'd ask incase there's a common problem of this.

As you say, you need to take a look at a couple of others to confirm.  :santa:

As said it may just be the TFSI noise  :happy2:
Could you imagine if you bought your car brand new and it just came off the car carrier and you go to collect it
Try to start it and it finally starts on the 4th turnover then it sounds like its got no oil in it  :signLOL:

Lol is that what happened to yourself? Wouldn't be impressed with a ten year old car doing that nevermind brand new!
