Replacing Rear Door Lock - Do I need VCDS
« on: December 11, 2011, 01:21:49 pm »
The rear passenger door on my 06 is becoming more and more temperamental and finding myself having to wiggle the interior door handle whilst locking and unlocking with the remote more often than not.  This is particularly annoying as I have a small child so this door gets used a lot.

From what I've read on here it sounds like its a case of door skin off and replace the door locking actuator bit (part no 7L0839015D I believe) appreciate any tips, tools I might require and confirmation of part number.  I assume the local stealer is the only place to get a replacement part, I don;t want to mess around with a s/h one.

I've read on other posts about plugging into VCDS, do I have to do this? just wondering if it needs programming or something.  I do not have VCDS so this is why I ask.

I've looked through this how to on the front door.. is removal of the rear much the same deal?

Any help or pointers much appreciated

cheers

If you look at the workshop manual linked in my guide you should be able to see if its the same procedure or not.  I would think it would be pretty much exactly the same.

No VCDS required to change the door lock module unless you want to erase the fault code that is most likely stored relating to the faulty existing unit.  Won't make any difference if you don't erase it  :happy2:

Thanks for the reply.

Have just ordered the part from Stealers (£106) now shall I wait until the weekend to fit or attempt it in an evening !  VW quoted 2 hours and £282 all in to do it.. best case.. worst case was cutting through door skin.. replacement doorskin etc.. etc.. and £600.  this is obviously if the lock fails and they can't open the door !

make sure you note where each of the bolts from the skin come from as they may not all be of the same length.

Just wondering, I'm probably not gonna be able to do the job until the weekend and it would be handy if this door was permanently unlocked is it possible to disconnect the power to the central locking for this door only ?  obviously I  could leave the whole car unlocked by rather just leave the 1 door.

Bloomin one on the drivers door has gone now at least I can use the key on that one... Is it just me or are Golfs build quality a pile of crap nowadays? having owned every mark of golf gti I have to say they seem to be more plasticy and things seem to break all the time and rattle with each revision! I dread to think what a pile of steaming poo the MK6's are !  Really annoying as  my 1999 Passat TDI on 205k of which 55k has been on waste chip fat is as solid and reliable as a solid an reliable thing that has just graduated from Oxford with a degree in solid and reliableness !

Just had to replace a rear door lock module on the wives golf. Easy to do if you can get door open, there is a diy for the front door on the forum, but its the same procedure for the rear door. Module was £110 from VW and took around 1hr to do.
